Default New businesses in Meredith

Any news on the two new establishments being built in Meredith, the brewery at the motorcycle museum and the bakery across from the town docks?

Some business construction projects run out of financing and come to a full stop, but these two Route 3 businesses seem to be moving forward to a spring/summer opening. Honestly, I have no clue?

Anything going on at Mames? Used to be one of our favorite restaurants.

Many issues there. It has been for sale for a long time. The building needs improvements but it’s a historical building

Unfortunately, the longer it sits, more work will be needed to save it.

^^^ Mame's was always a favorite. We walked by last Wednesday and it indeed looked very sad. As one who owns an old house (1820), I can attest that sitting without maintenance is not a good thing. At least it's brick.

Expect the old laundramat to soon be demolished and be replaced with a new Town of Meredith parking lot, to replace the existing town parking lot, across the road .... except leaving room for vehicles with boat trailers on the old lot, or something like this!

Which is probably why the condition of the old parking lot was allowed to deteriorate with such big pot holes.

So, what's the latest on the former home to Aubuchon's Hardware ..... will that soon be a big construction project .... or what?

Maybe some retired public employee will buy it and leave that extremely ugly, low building as is, and create a seasonal Museum for Old Snowblowers from the 1960's, 1970's & 1980's featuring Ariens and Toro ...... but not Honda ....... please let that happen! ..... where you pay 75-cents to enter, and get to peruse 45 different old snowblowers, all restored to their original beauty! Old snowblowers never seem to die .... they just retire to Meredith, NH ... if they are lucky! ...

On a hot and humid summer afternoon ..... for just 75-cents ..... you could re-visit the winter .... take an hour to go look at old orange and red snowblowers with the humid summer air thick with the smells of oil, and gasoline ..... in that large one-story, old retail space ......yes!

Anyone remember?

Did Zack's ever sell a pizza? Just wondering who bought it!

Zachy’s...That would have been me. Wish I had sent it back. It was one of the worst I ever had.

I remember the A&P. They used wheeled racks to roll your groceries out of the store. Kind of dumpy but typical of the time (like First National).

My favorites were the candy store (can’t remember the name) and the Five and Dime. When you’re a little kid (in the early 60’s) there was nothing better than a new toy for the lake and some penny candy. I may have bumped into my future wife when I was 8 but didn’t know it. My family was on Waukewan and hers was on Winni. She talks about her special trips to the candy shop too.

Other memories include the seaplane at the corner where Lago’s is and the lemon meringue pie from the bakery up on Main Street.

All of my memorable places are gone and thanks to Rusty and Alex and others for creating new ones.
