Wednesday January 2, (hey - that's tomorrow-well well well & my my), is the scheduled floor day fr HB-847. I don't really know what a 'floor date' is, but assume that's when the House Transportation Committee makes its' recommendation on HB-847, the 45day/25night, statewide, motorboat speed limit bill, to the 400 member house. The committee has something like 16 members and maybe 12 or so will actually show up on Wednesday.

I have no idea what I'm talking about....it's like 4:30am......but it.... hey..... everyone.....it's ttttTIME to SSSTART your engine, or paddle that kayak, or row that rowing shell, or set your sail, or jump in and start swimming on another year of speed limits battles......bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz............ss sssssssss.....whhhhoooosssshhhh......stroke....... feather.....stroke........feather......stroke!! ...let's steer Winni away from the crazy weekend nuthouse of gargantuan hi-speed enthusiasts in their souped up behemouth, gas guzzln mega-machines , and steer it towards a safe place for paddlers, rowers, sailors, fisherman, waterskiers, swimmers, and motorboaters, too! I am a motorboater, too!

And now don't forget this, going 45mph in a boat is hardly a slow speed! 45mph is indeed, a very fast speed!

I am by no means an expert here..... but I believe the floor date is the date the bill gets introduced for debate......with voting comming after it is decided if there is to be any futher admending to the bill.


Now FLL what have you been drinking and where can I get some..... hope your head doesn't feel the size of Montana this morning.....

Today's www.UnionLeader.com has a State House Dome article by Tom Fahey that speaks some about the boat speed limit bill, and suggests it will come to the House floor on Wednesday.

Attention, attenion, attention, all the go fast-be loud, performance boating forums across the country like 'Scream & Fly', and 'Offshore Only', it is now time to rev up those engines and start sending 100's & 1000's of emails to each and everyone of the community service, and VOLUNTEER PEOPLE who are the 400 New Hampshire State Representatives. I bumped into a state rep at the town transfer station this week, and he was driving a car just like mine, a 1998 Ford Escort wagen, with 4cyl, 5 speed, & 189k miles. It was in decent shape too, even had a working air conditioner! No doubt, he will appreciate 100's of emails that promote and allow 50 to 100+ mph for the 32'-8000lb-1200hp performance speedboats with names like the Baja Outlaw. ...thanks!

I know you are being sarcastic. But the vast majority of the responses to my emails have been quite favorable to the position that speed does not seem to be a significant problem on the State's lakes. Some are still considering the situation. Some obviously are in favor of the bill.

Almost universally, they express appreciation for our sharing our observations and beliefs and participating in the process.

None mentioned the type of car they drove. Perhaps they did not think it relevant.

You need to take some of those responses from reps with a grain of salt. After all they are politicians and adept in saying what you want to hear. Or at least in not saying what you don't want to hear.

Myself, I have not received a negative response.

In general I think "still considering" translates as "voting the other way".

Understood and agree. I also assume that most of the non responders are likely to disagree as well. My point is, I did not sense that our massive representative pool did not indicate that they had a problem hearing from us and in most cases appreciated hearing our input.

Representative government may not always result in what the majority of us want but we entrust them to spend the time to become familiar with the issue and make an informed decision that they think is best. Both sides hope they make the right decision. We should not be afraid to participate in the process.

I thank them for essentially volunteering their time to consider each and every issue. Perhaps one way or the other this could be the last time they have to consider this one.

What is the problem with the last paragraph?

Perhaps it was not correct to say the boat was "speeding" since there was no speed limit at the time. However, by the proposed law, it would be speeding.

There is an inaccuracy—but one of omission.

At 5:05, the first Justice remarks that Littlefield’s estimated 28MPH nighttime speed:

"sounds a little fast to me...on the water…".

A second Justice remarks at 5:16 (in a tone that suggests amazement):

"Isn’t there a speed limit?…even at night there is no regulation that has a maximum speed?"

Also, ditto that for the LaDaSun, plus that's the guy who Chase's Island is named after, so who would know better than him?. After all, he's been on Winnipesaukee since the indians got evicted!

So, anyone seen any smoke-signals on what's the latest in the New Hampshire House of Representatives and our 400 volunteer state reps with regard to HB-847? I've got my binoculars pointed to the southern sky, high above the state house in Concord, looking for a sign from above that the NEED for SPEED will soon be evicted, too! "$45,680 put plenty of effort in opposition to legislation to set boating speed limits on lakes and ponds. 2005 was a record year for lobbyists." Dec 18, 2005, Kevin Landrigan, Nashua Telegraph...writing about the NH Marine Trades Assoc.(N.H.M.T.A.) of Gilford, a tax-exempt and non profit lobbying group.

While the motorboat speed limits issue is not a totally partisan issue, it was a somewhat partisan issue in the house and senate.

Two years ago on Feb 2, 2006, when HB162 got to the NH house it was passed by a vote of 193-139. When it went on to the senate, it got nixed by a vote of 15 to 9.

Now, we have HB847 about to come to the floor of the NH house, only this year things may turn out differently. What's the big difference? In the election of November 2006, all the New Hampshire state house, state senate, executive, governor's council, and both congressional seats, (no US senate seats up for election in 2006) all changed colors. They all switched from a Republican red to a bright and hopefull Lake Winnipesaukee, Democratic shade of blue!

Ha....so....so...so.... Senator Robert Clegg of Hudson, Representative Mike Whalley of Alton and Representative Gene Chandler of Bartlett, Republican leaders - all three, better go take that now and run it through the exhaust pipes of their go-fast, be- loud, power boats because their fast times will soon be slowed down to a much, much safer 45day-25night mph speed limit!

What exactly has happened here in New Hampshire is that the N.H.M.T.A has just done gone and run out of enough friendly politicians to whom it can CHANNEL its' political contributions..........too, too bad about that....so-sorry-to-hear....fellas!

Yes, the NH House of Representatives has a Democratic majority, and most signifigantly, now in the NH Senate it is 14 Democratic verses 10 Republican. Last time around, it was 8 D verses 16 R........way-to-go....D-team.....and way-to-go.... NEW HAMPSHIRE!

Seems like it is OK with FLL to pass a 6 billion dollars budget with a 1.1 Billion dollars shortfall in revenues. Maybe they should send the bill to ....................

Hey, in the Town of Meredith, where like all NH towns, the selectmen are basically considered non partisan, neither Democratic or Republican. Anyway, the vote on the Meredith town budget line items recently was consistantly three to two, and my guess is that at least four out of five of the selectmen (4 guys & a gal) are Republicans.

So, for Republicans, these three Selectmen: Frank Michel, Bob Flanders, and Peter Brothers all like to go very heavy with the butter when voting on the town budget. Maybe the three should be called the Meredith butter-boys? As a real estate attorney, waterfront home builder, and mortgage officer, they all benefit themselves with high property taxes, as high property taxes increases sales turnover, and they all like to go heavy on the town budget butter. Are these local Meredith politicians buttering their own bread, or what?

...hey WiFi, this is getting a little off-topic from speed limits so I'll keep it brief. Whether a Meredith selectman-woman is an R or D is like a secret. It does not come up anywhere in their campaigning or in any news articles. I don't know why, but that's the way it is.

So, I base my R or D perception on knowing what I know. Basically, if the person looks like they should lose maybe 30 to 50 lbs, then they is probably a Republican.

So, lose the FAT, vote DEMOCRAT! Is that a good bumper sticker or what?

Then all those boaters that support the lakes businesses will go somewhere else, and the marina's that sell the boats can find some other kind of boat to sell or go out of business. Thats right chase all the boaters away so the people that have started flocking to Weirs beach can take over the parts of the lake that boaters will no longer be part of. Let them go to the businesses that will loose hundreds of thousands in revenue. It make sense to me?

I was just listening to the live audio/video feed of the NH House of Representatives. They moved the bill to the beginning of next week's session. One of the legislators said the added benefit of moving it out another week was that they (the legislators) now gained another week of emails which raised laughter in the chamber.
