Beach?

We absolutely love Lake Winnie, but the familiy would like to go to a
salt-water beach, sometime over the summer, for a day trip.

We would like to go to a salt-water beach on the NH coast, someplace as close to the big lake?

Any suggestions, maybe Rye, (not Hampton), or if close some beach in Maine?

Just a FYI, for travel time, I located near the Gilford-Alton line.

Suggestions greatly apprecaited !

As much as I love NH the best beaches can be found in Maine. Oguniquit beach just at the Moody beach line is great. Find Bourne road leaving Route 1and head east. At the stop sign turn right and find the parking lot at the end of the road. You'll find your way from there.

I have to agree with ChaseIsland, Maine is the way to go... York isn't all that far away...

Wallis Sands State park in Rye is very nice and has adequate parking

x2 From Alton/Gilford it's about an hours drive, lots of beach to walk on etc.
It is where we go to take a occasional day trip, take a nice walk, let the dog run on the beach and play in the waves.

I have been to Fort Foster in Kittery, Maine its nice quiet beach, has some shade if you want to get out of the sun. Has some walking trails, you can bring a grill.You can walk out a good distance before it gets deep.

Hampton Beach makes a great day trip, especially mid-week. A lot of money has been spent in the past few years to clean it up and improve the infrastructure.

On a weekend I would stick with Wallis Sands or Odiorne Point.

The best beach in Maine, in my opinion, is in Moody, ME - just between Wells and Ogunquit, and is referred to as The Footbridge:

We like the Footbridge because it's clean, easy to get to, parking isn't terribly expensive and there's public parking, public restrooms are pretty clean, there's a snack shop that's not outrageous (or all that special - but it works if you need chips and a drink) - and the beach isn't rocky.

It's a unique beach - and you get to it by walking about a quarter of a mile over a footbridge. The beach is very (very!) long - you won't run out of space even during high tide.

It's our favorite place to bring the kiddos. (But not our favorite beach to bring the dog - this beach has a NO DOGS policy all year 'round.)
