Default Hot tub lake water quality

s.I have had hot tubs for our mainland homes for over 40 years. Never did I imagine to have one on our island cottage. We got one as a gift from our son. i was curious about what the result would be filling it with lake water. would it have the same off color brownish hue. And if it did how should I treat it to be safe considering bacteria when the temp in hot tub would be 102 degrees.
Of course the water coming into the tub was the same color as the water from the lake brownish hue. So I decided to see what would happen to the water quality and color when I would add a small cap full of chlorine. Instantly the water turn crystal clear. I mean crystal clear water like in the Caribbean waters. Or a professionally treat pool. I was shocked! That was a week ago. Today the hot tub water is still crystal clear. I used hot tub test strips to measure chlorine levels, plus alkaline, PH and calcium hardness levels. ALL levels were in the appropiate ideal levels. i have never had water that I put in a hot tub over 40 years that met all criteria ideal levels. I usually draw water from our mainland 800' well. Most times it would have iron or be very hard and not meet the ideal measurements from the test kit. Only thing I can say is if you are considering using Lake Winnipesaukee water at least in our location to fill a hot tub... go right ahead. To my surprise at least the water where we live just West of 19 mile bay is very acceptable for hot tub usage. Can anyone help explain the transition from typical clear but a brownish hue that with adding small amount of chlorine make it look pristine even after a week. I'm really curious.

I have been using lake water in a hot tub for 20 years. I did buy a sediment filter at Lowe's that I put on the garden hose when I fill the hot tub. It makes it just a little cleaner when it goes in.

Once the chlorine does it's thing, usually overnight, the water looks great and tests great. It is surprising how clear it gets.

My recollection from the Winnipesaukee bible, "Three Centuries on Winnipesaukee" is that the water in the north end of the lake is as pure as anywhere else, but it is "black" based on trees/natural waste that decayed on the bottom. (Yes, I know that was published 90 years ago.)
I'd guess you have clean water if you take a sample and send it to a lab. Once in a while we do this on Welch Island and we continue to drink the water as we have for the last 60+ years. Test your water. I think you'll be pleased. And yes, there will be some bacteria. It's a lake, not a well.
I'm always amazed at the posts about adding various filter systems when people have not tested the water.

We have had hot tubs on the island for years and always fill from the lake. We have a whole house sediment and UV filter (water is pumped from the lake), so the water is filtered before it comes out of the hose bib. You can purchase inline filters to put on a garden hose if concerned. Our water has always been clean and clear, with perfect initial readings before treatment.

The Ocean State Job Lot website has two inflatable hot tubs for $480 and $580 that run on 110-volts, plus you get a $100 crazy deal gift card.

Wonder how totally fantastic are these ..... anyone know?

Am thinking to throw some boards across a used old jetski lift, and set it on the lift to make it close to the lake.
