Welch Island DSL
Several weeks ago when I called Fairpoint to have the DSL service turned back on I was told of a service upgrade. For an additional $3/month the (dismal) 1.6 Mbps down could be upgraded to 3 Mbps with no change in equipment. I said OK but it took a while, a tech had to either bridge or unbridge wires at the service entrance to camp. They did come on Monday and a download speed test gave 2.96 Mbps almost double the prior 1.55.
We use Netflix on the ROKU as well as NewsOn to watch Ch 9 news, much better at the higher rate. I was also told that with an equipment up grade (modem that allows channel bonding) we could get 6 to 7 Mbps but at a higher rate structure plan. However it looks like the 3 Mbps will be fine for us right now as I am still on and intro rate. When that ends I'll plan to upgrade to the next available level. |

Thanks to Slick, I upgraded mine to the 7 Mbps plan for less money per month than I was paying for their 1.6 Mbps plan!! Yes you do have to either purchase a new modem or lease it. I purchased mine....Requires 1 year minimum contract...

YES, their bonding is great, few people know to ask for this.
