Default Rental scams

Check Craigslist for the vacation rentals I found a property I know is not rented as shown on Craigslist. Confirmed by owner not renting on that site.

Craigslist and Fakebook Marketplace are 90% scams, buyers and sellers beware!

I have a Winnipesaukee rental and among other places it has been listed I have been using Craigslist for over 20 years. There have been a few renters that I had to confirm ownership for (especially during winter when I ask them to send the check to Florida) but it has been very successful overall.

Craigslist used to be the primary way to go for a lot of things like selling cars or boats. Facebook seems to have taken the lead.

Sadly, and unfortunate, Seniors' are often targeted by scammers, because they are so trusting.

I wanted to rent a place for a month during the beginning of COVID. The "owner" would not show the place in person but gave me the address to ride by and e-mailed detailed photos of the interior.

I google-earthed the address and went around the block, from my living room, and found a sign that names the apartment community. I called the manager and determined it was a scam.

I've used CL & FB to post available rentals in both San Francisco and Meredith with no problems and great success. However, I agree it's mind-field.

It's sad for honest people that we have all these scammers. I feel sorry if anybody really does things like clean HVACs,
