Default Waterville Valley

This webcam www.waterville.com/cams shows the new Waterville Valley, nine million dollar, Tecumseh Express, six-seat enclosed bubble chairlift that's replaced their 4-seat quad. The building behind it is a chairlift storage barn as these chairs are to be stored inside the storage barn at night, or something. Do not understand the what and why on this storage barn? Believe the smaller attached building to the right is the new chairlift control building.

https://liftblog.com/2021/04/19/mnd-...rville-valley/ ... April 19, 2021 ... MND Ropeways to Build First US Detachable at Waterville Valley

In 2011 the entire Waterville Valley ski area was purchased by Team Sununu from Booth Creek for 10.5 million dollars, and now they have built a new 9 million dollar chairlift. Back in 2012 they had ten dollar Tuesdays and Thursdays where an all-day lift ticket cost just ten dollars. The next year that ten dollar lift ticket special was discontinued and Chris Sununu said "When you charge just ten dollars for a lift ticket, what you get is a ten dollar skier."

Before this new lift may carry passengers it needs to be inspected by the https://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/...way/index.html ...... a division of the New Hampshire Fire Marshal

The barn was built to protect the chairs from the elements, especially icing. This will allow them to get the lift up and running a lot sooner after an icing on the cake weather event.

What I don't get is why they went with MND rather than Doppelmayr or Leitner-Poma.

Today is December 7, 2022 and this link ...... http://www.snowpak.com/new-hampshire.../opening-dates shows the Waterville Valley opening dates from 2014 through 2021 as:

Nov 22, 2014

Nov 25, 2016

Nov 24, 2017

Nov 23, 2018

Nov 23, 2019

Dec 04, 2020

Dec 06, 2021

Dec 10, 2022, .... three days from now, announced by management .... http://www.twitter.com/waterville/st...48965019172864 .... so, it looks like this will probably be the Waterville Valley ski area's latest opening day ever ever ever, going back to 1966.

Most every year, going back to 1992, there was always some natural snow cover in Waterville Valley to make it look wintry with white snow cover on the golf course starting on November 8, but not for the years 2020, 2021, or 2022.

https://localtoday.news/ca/data-show...er-159625.html ..... 'New England winters getting warmer' ....... As a matter of fact, the www.watervillevalleygolf.com is still looking very green and playable today on December 7*, except it's been raining all day with temps in the 40's.

Dec 18: Buoy-o-buoy, this weekend snow storm on Dec 16 & 17, 2022 dumped a huge snowfall on Waterville Valley, like a lot of thick, dense, heavy snow. Excellent for making snowballs, snow.

There had to be 16-18" tall, dense pile of thick snow atop the roof on my Subaru, between the roof racks, which does not happen every winter, here. A heck of a lot of heavy snow, here!

Just 10-miles down the road in Thornton and Campton, there was considerably less snow next to Rt 49 with maybe a few inches, say 3"?

And, down in Meredith on Lake Winnipesaukee, about 30 air miles south, it was just a minor dusting of one inch or less of wet heavy snow, with considerable bare ground present. That was a "where's all the snow?" surprise. Probably, it came down mostly as liquid rain? Had assumed one hour+ with the snowblower, but it was just ten minutes with a snow shovel.

Wonder if the ground in Meredith is frozen yet. Possibly not?

Wonder what happened at Cranmore, Abanaki, and Gunstock for snow?

Take a look at the BearCam5 ...... www.bearchow.com ..... to view the bare bear ground on the north end of Bear Island, Meredith in Lake Winnipesaukee.

I have snow in Belmont.
Probably will not slide off the metal roof until next Friday...

They predicted 6-12, and I got 8 or 9 of the really wet heavy stuff.
