Default Thanksgiving Buffet recommendations

While I would prefer to stay home and cook, my dad is coming up from Florida and would like to do a nice buffet. I know a lot of places do them, does anyone have a good experience with any that they could recommend?

I have seen O and Steel Hill advertise in the Daily Sun. I am in Laconia, so Lakes region area suggestions would be appreciated. I would not mind driving to other parts of the lake for a nice place.

Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

We've gone to the Thanksgiving dinner at Church Landing the last few years. Only reason we won't be back this year is because we're going to Detroit instead.

I second Church Landing - We did Thanksgiving there a few years ago and found it to be very good. Buffet style. They take reservations and there is a limit on how many they can take so it's best to check with them ASAP. We also had our after wedding on the lake (very small, ie eloped) dinner there in 2011 and that was great as well.

After a few years hiatus we've dined at CH three times in the past two months. We had an excellent experience each time. I'm told there was a Head Chef and GM change a short time ago. In my opinion they are getting the job done. I can't think of a better ambiance for the occasion as well.

Sounds like Daddy has had some experience with said daughters cooking and...well you know.

Church Landing gets my vote also.

I think you're right. We went there for brunch a few weeks ago and it seemed to be all new staff.

Hart's is definitely still open and will be open on Thanksgiving 10:30-4. I'm not sure if they are offering buffet or menu service for Thanksgiving but I don't believe they accept reservations for it. They have started accepting orders for Thanksgiving to go for anyone who wants to enjoy Hart's at home and they've also resumed Friday night buffet for anyone who wants turkey buffet before the holidays

Went to Hart's a couple weeks ago looking for turkey pie on a chilly fall weekend. Prices were high and quality was low--by far and away the blandest mashed tatos, turkey pie, and turkey blt sandwich my wife, kids, and I ever had. My 4 and 2-year-olds even complained about the mashed potatoes and turkey nuggets. After that experience, I'd rather hunt my own turkey and deal with a few missed feathers. <--hyperbole, but not by much. Godspeed!

funny you should make those comments about the quality...... I have always defended the place as a go-to restaurant with great food. Lately, the food has been very bland and "cafeteria" type food. My family has refused to go there as of late; they have had enough.

Have they changed owners or do the owners just not care anymore?

Sorry if this goes against the grain...but I've a harts many times over the past years. The last time was last Easter for the Easter dinner/buffet. It was terrible. And prior to that I used to ask myself why do I continue to go there? Because the food is just not how it used to be.

The Lyons Den in Gilford I believe will be serving on Thanksgiving. I don't think it is a buffet. Heard nothing but good about their Thanksgiving menu though!!

Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving wherever you end up!!

Your wife had to be convinced to not cook?

Don't ever get rid of her because she is one of a kind.

Woodlands Tavern (West Alton...the former William Tell Inn) has an ad in today's Laconia Daily Sun advertising that they'll be open on turkey Day from 12:30 to 5:00. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Default Foster's Boiler Room

If you haven't been, you should as it is a real treat. The dining room is actually the boiler room for a large wood turning mill in which the building is now an Inn. Make reservation for the table that is actually inside the boiler itself!

Sure beats all the 'tacky' decorations at Church Landing and at the Lakehouse.

Yes no offense meant to Harts Either but the last meal I had there was ok, just ok, but over priced IMO. I believe Harts used to have a Buffett, they should bring it back.

Default Thanksgiving Buffet

We have been to Fosters several times for their holiday buffets. The food is pretty good, but the dessert buffet has been disappointing of late.

This year we will try the Thanksgiving Buffet at the Inn on Main in Wolfeboro as we have learned from the Forum that Magic Foods/O/Canoe, etc has purchased it. We hope the new folks are in by then, but if not, that's okay too. Something different.

Also heard the Magic Foods folks are expanding to Bedford NH.

Default Homestead - Bristol

I was told by an employee, The Homestead is open from 1:30 to 3:30. They will have three seatings. Reservations is closed. They do have an on-call list in case of cancellations.

I was told Homestead is a close to home cooking that you can get.

The family Favorite if we should go out for Thanksgiving was always the Winnisquam Inn when Contigiani catering was there or The Nutmeg Inn in Meredith. (Now close).

I just wanted to stop back in and say that we took my dad to Church Landing on Thanksgiving, as many of you suggested, for the buffet. My dad really enjoyed it, we had a great time. Thanks again everyone.
