Default Pickerel

Just caught a big Pickerel off Sawyer Point (20 mile bay). Hit a Rapala floating lure. Are there any others out there catching Pickerel?

I find that pickerel get very aggressive early in the season.

They often beat the bass to my lure.

Rapala #7 gold floater works best for me but I am considering replacing the treble hooks with singles in pickerel areas.

They often take the hooks deep and don't survive the ordeal.

Congrats. Great fighting fish. It's hard to land because frequently the line breaks due to their sharp teeth. I catch them around Lees Mills in the lily pads. Also, nice to see someone fishing off the dock!! Our family does it quite often but I don't see it much anymore.

Haven't seen a pickerel in 20 years. Rock bass eat the young. used to catch them as often as bass when I was a kid-FIFTY years ago!
