Default Google Earth Winni Maps updated

I check every once in a while to see if Google Earth has updated their satellite photos of the lake. (Most of the stuff was from 2005,06)

Just checked this AM and was pleased to see that the current image for Lake Shore Park is now a shot that is less than a year old. July 5th, 2009.

Fun to look at sites around the lake from space! The zoom feature will let you a pretty clear view all the way down to about 3,000'.

They also have added many more "street shots" to the maps around the lake. There are also tons of pictures people have posted and marked from all over the lake. Fun Stuff.

Default Google maps

I love Google Earth !! and if you go to Google, maps, you can drag the little icon of the man ( he's on the zoom in / zoom out bar ) over to any area and see a 360 degree photo of the area right at street level. I was doing that yesterday, dragging that little guy down rte. 25 from Meredith past Moultonborough.

Stupid question: How do you determine the date of a particular shot? I notice that when you view the are between Melvin Bay and 20 Mile Bay, you can now tell that the western side of the shot has been renewed, while the eastern side is older. The water is reflecting light differently, and the shadows are bolder on the "new" side.

As I scroll around the local area, the imagery date in the lower left always shows July 5, 2009. I do know that the imagery is stitched together from multiple satellite passes so there is often an apparent boundary in lighting or cloud cover.

If you zoom out a little and move around the state you will see distinct boundaries and different dates.

I wish Bing would get "birdseye" imaging of the lake. My town has it and I can almost see in my windows

Default Google Earth

I checked it out a few months ago and did the street view...it had not been available prior. However, I noticed that this time there was an avail shot to 360 degrees...noticed the leaves were orange and yellow. When zoomed in noticed the 2008 McCain/Palin sign....so was taken October prior to election day.

Default Want to compare Google Maps and Bing Maps?

Cool little site. Type in one "location", see the results from Google and Bing side by side.

Thanks for cool site. This link clearly shows the relative ages of the images. They lengthened the runway in Laconia a few years ago.

BTW take a look at how they rerouted the wetlands, do you think a private landholder could do that?

If you're in Google Earth, you can click the little clock at the top and get a slider bar that allows you to switch between older and newer imagery. That will give you the date that the current photo was taken on, plus it's cool to see before/after shots as more stuff gets built.
