Talking Meredith McDonalds

So, before the pandemic got started in March 2020, I used to hit the Meredith McDonald's a few times every week. It is an older style building design, built in 1987 and much much nicer inside than the more recent McDonald's box style 2010's style building design ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdQoWGQ2c-8 ... are totally terror-bobble. This here Meredith McDonald's has had exactly ONE manager, John, since it opened in 1987.

Recently stopped back in, first time-long time for breakfast, got a big breakfast ... http://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/pr...breakfast.html ... without pancakes and a coffee, no other beverage, and it cost like $7.50 for the plastic plate with eggs, a hash brown, a muffin and a flat sausage.

Am I missing something here? This is very very expensive for what it used to cost, about $4.50 (and I thought that was expensive!-) before the pandemic started in March, 2020 and is now $7.50 ...... omg! ... oh-no .... say it ain't so ....Mickey D?

And another thing, the dollar menu with the one dollar hamburgs and one dollar fries and freebie cup of excellent, icy cold Lake Waukewan water has disappeared too, and now costs about $4.50 ..... wowie-zowie ..... like, so what 'zactly is happening here .... Mr Jones?

Gimme a break here, Meredith McDonald's ..... so, where did the old Meredith McDonald's go? Apparently, it has left town due to the pandemic or something and will probably never return. Is like McDonald's is no longer McDonald's and has become McXpensive's! ... ... so it's goodbye McD's ..... and hello McX's ...... boo-hoo-hoo .... is so sad ... McX's ....

Your observations about price are 100% correct.

I also recently visited McXepensive and witnessed a family of 4 spend over $50 for dinner! $50+ dollars at McDs, I didnt even think their cash registers went up this high,,,

Seems like food prices have doubled in the last year. Along with gasoline, electricity, etc,,, Cant wait to see what is going to happen with taxes soon. Its like we are becoming Europe. If this is progress, I will happily turn back the clock!

FLL, that Big Breakfast has enough fat in it to kill you before you get home. Quit going to McDonald's.

Another of the countless reasons to not go to McDonald's---save your money for healthy food at the grocery store.

Wifey and I stopped in at the Meredith McDonalds for a Big Mac and double cheeseburger the other night. I almost took both of the burgers back, but we were on our way home and I was too tired to turn around. Burgers were so overdone that they were crispy. Black on the outside. Not really even warm. Fries were not hot. Terrible quality meal.

When at a fast food restaurant be sure to ALWAYS order your French Fries without salt. This forces them to cook a fresh hot batch of French Fries and you can go ahead and add your own salt.

For burgers? Tell them you want them without pickles. They will cook you up a fresh batch of burgers because of that.

Enjoy your meals.

Are you sure? Or do they just tell you they did and reach into the fry warming bin?

Are you sure they don't just take the pickles off the burgers they cooked 3 hours ago?

Covid-19 started in 2019. McDonald's changes the dollar menu a lot to deal with shortages... that is why I could not get a salad in 2019 and had to go to the $1 hamburger (I skipped the fries... too much salt and empty carbs).

The style is derived by the owners based on the plan for Meredith to exude a camp atmosphere.

Always works for me......

By the way, for French Fries they can't reach into the fry warming bin as those have already been covered (actually saturated) with salt.

I doubt Meredith has anything that sits for any length of time.
Even in the depth of Covid, that place was like an endless line.

Hmmmmmmm

Where do I start?

McD's has had significant wage increases just to get enough staff to keep the doors open.

Payroll expenses including social security, Medicare tax, unemployment tax and workman's comp insurance are all based on payroll dollars.

With the increase in payroll dollars these expenses increase as well.

The backdoor cost of food and paper items is up significantly.

What is in the cases, beef, chicken, pork and potatoes became much more expensive as you have no doubt seen in your own shopping cart.

Bringing the cases to McD's got more expensive too due to the doubling of the price of diesel fuel and increased wages paid to the truck drivers who are a scarce commodity now.

Then there are the utilities.

Gas and electric cost is up or going up soon.

These are used for cooking, heating and cooling the building.

Fun fact:

While the air in your home may turn over about two or three times a day, a McD's turns over its air about every three minutes!

That is because the exhaust fans must keep cooking odors, gas combustion fumes and grease vapor from clouding up the store.

All that air needs to be replaced with clean (it goes through filters), conditioned (heated or cooled) air.

The economic model that has served McD's so well is challenged in these circumstances.

The price delta between McD's and the next level up in the restaurant business is getting tight but for many, convenience still favors McD's.

Weak execution will have customers looking elsewhere fast at these prices.

Last year my favorite sub shop charged $9.59 for an Italian sub.

Today I paid $12.95.

Default Back to McD's

Alton McD's have mix and match items for $2 (or so) plus tax. I get 2 Sausage McMuffin sandwiches (no egg) for $2 and change. I live the flavor of their sausage patties.

I blame a lot of the increase on price gouging, of sellers trying to make up for lost profits from covid closure / slowdown.

For example, I buy artisan bread at a local grocer here out west; pre-covid it cost $1.99, now it is $3.99.

Gouging.

Less, your political affiliations and frankly, votes, have lead to this. You should be happy paying more as your philosophical ideals, that you so freely share here, are coming to fruition. Congratulations!!!!

I can understand why you might think that but you are mistaken.
Restaurants are just trying to survive with the huge price increases from suppliers on everything that we use.
Frying oil that was $17 is now almost $50
Anything associated with chemicals and paper goods has quadrupled
Some food items such as pork are still stable, but most seafood items have doubled in price.Labor costs are up by 40%
The price of gas and diesel has caused our suppliers to apply a surcharge to most deliveries....propane and oil are up dramatically....and on and on it goes.
There could be some gouging, but I haven't seen it in restaurants. Most are just trying to figure out how to get through these tough times.

Low unemployment and pushing more monetary and fiscal stimulus will do it every time.

All you have to do is look at the federal budget deficit for each year starting back in 2008 to last year to see the situation.

Add to that the 1984 warning of the number of workers to retirees ratio dropping at this time... and BOOM wage inflation.

Depends on the reaction of the American consumer.
If they become more conservative... the inflation will subside quickly... if they don't... then it will take a lot more inflation or much higher interest rates from the FED.

But I think the higher inflation is the better choice... it hits those that are free spending more than those that conserve our resources.

And ........ drum roll here ..... ra-ta-tat-tat-tat-tat ..... here's a super super excellent 16-second short ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsCviOzq1uQ ... from August, 2008 .... fourteen years ago ..... inside the Meredith McDonald's ...... with the Meredith NH "McDonald's Talking Moose" .... their animatronic talking moose .... is the same moose in there, as you know, today in 2022!

Video not working due to missing unknown letter between the u_Q ..... what is this letter? Could belong to some alien moose alphabet?

So, what say-eth this talking moose? Mr Moose says the coffee here at the Meredith McDonald's tastes SO much better than the pond water that he normally drinks, followed by his moose GRUNT! And, Mr Moose says he enjoys his cup of McDonald's coffee, black!

Default Just WOW!

Stop going to major fast food chains since the green slime mess!

'Eat this, Not that' tells a lot about food gouging as well as prices!

Except for Wendy's which has fresh salads, I avoid all. Love the dollar coffees at Mcd and Cumbies.

I do occasionally go to Aroma Joe's. Love talking face to face with a smiling face as opposed to a kiosk that can either barely hear me or I barely hear them! Plus I'm old and have a hard time hearing!
