Default Where to Buy Canoe/Kayak?

I have navigated nearly ever nook and cranny on the northern quarter of the lake in my Old Town 16 foot canoe......until an old oak tree collapsed on our canoe rack and split my old friend in two pieces several years ago.

I want to re-invigorate my old paddling adventures but am shocked at the cost of canoes and kayaks at local shops (Meredith/Moultonborough).

Can anyone recommend a shop with knowlegeable sales staff and prices that don't gouge potential buyers?

Try Sports & Marine Parafunalia in Gilford, esp at end of season.

Also, Kittery Trading Post, Kittery Maine and EMS in Concord by Border's. In just a couple of weeks, many stores will be discounting the 2007 models. That's how I have bought 2 kayaks at half price. Worth the wait if you can...

Good Luck & Enjoy!

There's a new-looking kayak for sale just a ¼-mile north of downtown Wolfeboro. It's been on North Main Street about a month, so the seller may take a mid-season offer.

I have a Ranger canoe I can sell you if interested. Private message me if you would like to see pictures. It has been used very lightly.

Default Canoe King

I'd go see the guys from Canoe King. They are located on Route 16N in Tamworth next to the Granite State Grand Prix go-cart track. Great guys, definately worth a visit.

Default The Ship

We liked the staff, Dave and Bonnie, at Fay's Marine Store-The Ship off Route 11 in Gilford. They sell Hobie brand kayaks that feature a fun pedal feature, in addition to the traditional paddle. We bought a couple of Sport Mirage models and like the versatility offered with the pedaling and/ or just paddling. They are made to use an optional sail system too. We were able to "test drive" the kayaks in water before purchase. Dave and Bonnie were very knowledgeable, spent alot of time with us, no pressure sales. These kayaks are pricy, but it is a quality craft with fun features. We recommend you check them out. Happy shopping!

Try the LL Bean outlets in Concord or Manchester. We bought a 16' canoe, a tandem kayak, and a solo kayak (all Old Town) for $1200 for all. They have great deals on their "seconds" or closeouts.

'Nuther vote for Mountain Road Trading Post. Good, honest, people there. I use them for shrinkwrap service on my boat too.

Default Busier than ever

Whoever declared that life becomes easier and simpler as one ages must have lived a century ago. The thought of kayaking has, unfortunately, been a distant dream for me the past two weeks.

I do want to thank everyone for their suggestions. They have been very valuable. I have settled on checking out a couple places this weekend, and can't wait. Maybe I can convince one of the retailers to extend an end of season discount a little early?
