Default Small Mouth with red eyes

My son caught a nice smallmouth late today...yes it was absolutely a smallmouth and not a rock bass. He was 2 1/2 pounds and it had amazing deep red eyes...has anyone else ever seen this? I mean they looked like rubys.

Smallmouth bass eye colors, like humans, vary by fish. I have noticed the smallies with red eyes are brilliantly red.

Quite normal and I seem to see it more often when they are very small.
