Default Wolfeboro Fireboat

While looking at the Wolfeboro webcam I noticed the fireboat is still in the water at the public docks. When do they usually pull the boat out? Is there a specific date or does it just depend on the weather?

Default Fire Boat

I've been wondering the same thing. The departure usually marks the end of the tourist season for me.

Driving through town about 12:30 today there were 4 or 5 boats in addition to the Fire Boat at the Wolfeboro docks today. There were no boats in Meredith.

Default Wolfeboro Fireboat

I saw those boats arrive about 11:30 AM; it looked like all the people were one big group. Maybe they were getting the last run of the season; it was a great day, cold, but only on the land, not out on the water (?).

Thanksgiving is over, so... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All!!

Island residents are a different breed, regardless of the nearby public docks.

Thanksgiving wasn't always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.

Congress, having nothing else to do after the attack on Pearl Harbor, passed the new date into law December 26th, 1941.

Franksgiving, 1939-1941 ..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franksgiving

... quoting Curly's reply to Moe from a Three Stooges movie released on October 4, 1940: "You can never tell. Look what they did to Thanksgiving!"

That's the same Stooges film ("No Census, No Feeling") in which both Curly and Larry declare that they were born at Lake Winnipesaukee.

Ya gotta love this forum. Where else can you start a thread about the Wolfeboro fireboat and have it end with a reference to the Three Stooges.

Hey, yesterday I noticed the Meredith Fire boat parked at the Unique Boat Restoration business on RT 25 in Moultonborough, and it got a nice new paint job, or maybe a more permanent gel coat re-do on the outside. It basically looks like a new boat with the new do, and it now says MEREDITH FIRE in huge, white, block letters on both sides, within a bright red hull for the entire, big boat.

It is now one very happening looking fire boat ..... is probably new gel or fiberglass .... and it looks like a super quality boat re-do. Got to admit .... looks better than a $3.50 reduced price quart of Wal-Mart's reg price $12.50 exterior, semi gloss .... which is great paint ..... but not a new gel re-do. What this new high quality re-do replaced was a do-it-themselves Fire Dept paint job ....... so, this here fire boat just went up-town, big time!

Believe it is powered by two Suzuki 140-hp four cylinder outboards, and with its' new do, looks like a very sharp fire boat .... is maybe twin 200-hp outboards ..... maybe 300-hp ....... whatever!

So, with that big powerful fire boat, they need to get really serious ..... go hit the water ...... and work on a Sunday morning water ski show that tours the lake ..... spritzing water from bow water cannon ...... ka-spritz ..... look at that ...... there they go ..... and make that fire boat a famous lakes region status icon ..... the famous Meredith Fire Dept touring water ski show!!

I saw it driving by FL-3 about a minute ago with two on-board.... it has a water cannon in front of the windshield .... heading south somewhere, with no flashing red light visible .... probably just a coffee run on a cold, rainy day.
