Default Anyone want to buy a church?

Historic church in Alton for sale.

101 Main Street Alton, NH, 03809 If these walls could talk. 190 years of history inside this icon of downtown Alton. The possibilities for the future are limitless. Where can your imagination take this stately structure? Buildings like this have taken on a totally new life as condos, apartments, offices ,retail, school. As they say” this place has got good bones” but of course have your building inspection professional make that assessment. There is just over 3100 square feet of space to create your new dream, passion or vision, another 500+ in the attic space. Let your imagination wander, what can this space be used for? There is a full kitchen and 2 bathrooms. The organ and bell will be removed prior to the sale completion. Or it can be negotiated for. The basement is fully accessible, with a dirt floor, where you can see the beautiful stone foundation. The most recent use of this building has been for school and care for children.

Two different churches. The Community church that you mentioned is on Church Street. The church that is for sale is on Main Street.

If you look really close at the sign in front of the church in the photo, doesn't it say Community Church of Alton.

Did anyone every think they may have built a new church? Which might be why they are willing to keep the organ and bell... unless the new owner is willing to pay enough for them so the new church can have an organ and bell.

Lots of buildings in the news going for sale due to the market being so hot.
We have older properties, financial distressed properties, etc that are/will be making headlines.

Default Two churches- same name

The Community Church of Alton has two churches, one on Main Street, 1 on Church St.

Church St. Is a smaller church, Main St is much larger.

The Main St property is what is for sale.

They also have a parsonage on Church St.

For many years, the Main St church was used spring summer and fall due to influx of seasonal residence folks. Church St. used late fall winter early spring because it was smaller and less expensive to heat.

Attendance, when in summer, is down considerably.

Folks we know here in CT purchased a similar-looking church 15 years ago and converted it to a spectacular home. They did a fantastic job maintaining the character of the structure's past. Maybe too good since to this day, people will come knocking on their door thinking it's still a place of worship.

Funny when I saw your first post I was going to ask you what was the scoop figuring you would know. :laugh Then I saw the last post and you came through! I knew you would! Thanks. So it sounds like they only need the smaller church now due to lower attendance and they can save money by selling one. Correct?

This building, 101 Main St, was indeed built in 1831, the one on Church St. was built in 1827.

Two nice and very old churches.

The one on main had a preschool that closed down.
We asked why, and they said the building was basically condemned, or at least needed significant work for legal occupancy by a school.

I hope someone revitalizes this. I’m not religious at all, but old New England churches are something special.

I'm not interested in buying a church, but I'd consider selling my Hammond B3 organ, and I have a couple of bells that came off B & M steam engines in the 50's. We had three; one that was used as a church bell at Camp Kehonka. Two left.

Hey ..... here's another old church building that very much looks like a traditional church building that is for sale in North Woodstock, NH. "The Freewill Baptist Church building, in North Woodstock, New Hampshire, was built in 1826, but is now home to Pemigewasset River Antiques."

This sales listing has a photo ..... https://www.loonvalley.com/listing/4...tock-nh-03262/ ..... says it has 0.31 acres land and an asking price of $235,000

This address is close to the stop lights intersection of Main St-Daniel Webster Hgwy and Rt 112-Kangamagus Hgwy.

...... just noticed the photo says it has been SOLD.

Sometime unknown, maybe twenty to 25 years ago this church building was first sold and ended its' long history, 1826 to 2000(?) as "an assembly of persons met for worship and relgious instruction."

Looking at it on google earth, it certainly looks like this old Freewill Baptist Church 0.31-acre lot slopes down to the Pemigewasset River and is on the river, there ...... so it's a Pemi River front lot, overgrown with trees, an old historic 1826 former church building with two town parking spaces directly in front on the Main St of North Woodstock.

As it says it is SOLD, what will happen with it, the church building and the 0.31-acre location? Anyone know? It just seems so disappointing when a church building stops functioning with a church congregation, "an assembly of persons gathered for religious worship" even though its been twenty years or more since this church building was used by a church congregation for church functions.
