Default Sawyers is Open!

No joke...

It made me sentimental for summer today, as the snow/sleet/rain was coming down and I drove by the place. Their sign was on and spinning... Lots of cars in the parking lot. The sign said they're only open weekends for now but still...

Summer can't possibly be that far away...

Back in the 1970s, on Rte. 125 near the Plaistow-Kingston border, there used to be a family restaurant that started out as an ice cream stand called Sawyers. It expanded over the years, and they eventually built a banquet hall near by where a lot of couples had wedding receptions. Both locations are in the general area of Larry's Clam Bar, which I believe still does a thriving business.

Anyone know if it's the same family behind both? I have a vague recollection that the one in southern NH used a similar scripted logo as can be seen at the Gilford location.

Default Ice Cream today at Sawyers

and it was great as usual. The other half had frozen pudding and I had chocolate chip, and great on both. Drove down to Lincoln Park at Belknap point and watched the world go by and ate our ice cream.

There were snow showers over the Ossipees and some cold looking boats on a very cold looking Lake.

Made for a great lunch. just home the good doctor doesn't know my user name!

Stopped by for the first time a few years. Food was great, had haddock plate onion hearts and pint of shrimp. Cost around $30, not too bad for fish at the lake. Cole slaw was a little dry and the dinner rolls are silly, but the main courses were perfect.

Place was skip and span, so I'll be going back, I won't eat in a dirty restaurant twice.

I'm closing on 50 and we were the youngest couple in the place, I notice this in a lot of seafood places lately. It seems like the kids never got hooked on seafood.

Arrow Sawyers.

Kind of think quality of food went downhill after G. Sawyer passed away. I wasn't impress last year when the Sawyer boys are gone.

As for the younger crowd staying away from fried foods joints, they know fried foods are not good for the health. Lately fried foods bothers my stomach.

I also feel the quality has slipped since they sold the place. And it seems to be getting more expensive. Maybe it's just that my kids are getting bigger, so they eat more, but I can't come out of there anymore without feeling like I've spent a lot of money. All this being said, I'm a huge Sawyers fan because I'm a sucker for nostalgia.
