Default Japanese in Wolfeboro?

The West Lake sign is down. The lights are out.

As far as I'm concerned, once Su and Ling were gone, it was never very good.

However - there's a sign up saying that it is a new Japanese restaurant, seemingly not open yet. Does anyone have the inside scoop?

Default Saka Japanese Restaurant

Thanks for the heads-up. Saka Japanese Restaurant appears to be the restaurant taking West Lake's place. The only Google results I could find were business registrations and a blurb indicating that there was a post about Saka on a “What's Happening in Wolfeboro” Facebook that I couldn't fully access because Facebook doesn't play nice with my iPad and I'm not a Facebook member (which shouldn't be necessary to view posts & comments on “public” pages, but whatever) — maybe someone else on the Forum will have better luck.

I hope it's a winner. My husband & I would love for a good Japanese restaurant to open in Wolfeboro.

That's a bit like complaining about American food as kale, spinach, and mushrooms.

But to your question--YES! Just last night--it was wrapped around some wonderful salmon.

One weakness with the lake restaurant scene is that so many have basically identical menus. A Japanese addition would be terrific.

Google indicates that "Wen Lin" is registered agent for a corp. that operates Kume Sushi and Steakhouse in Seabrook, which is well-reviewed in yelp.

Looks like this won't be a rookie start-up, which bodes well.

Some Kale and all Spinach are high in oxalates—and should be shunned by those fearful of kidney stones. Mushrooms supply necessary Selenium to one's diet.

When the West Lake restaurant started under new management (2018?), a Japanese bar was sited in the dining area, and was busy preparing take-out orders.

Wen, the gentleman who is opening Saka in Wolfeboro also has a restaurant in Epping called Kume. I have eaten there a couple of times and found the food to be both tasty and fresh. I believe that Saka will be his fourth or fifth restaurant here in New England. Obviously they have a formula that seems to work. Hopefully it works well in Wolfeboro. I've heard they're just waiting for their liquor license and then they will open up here.

Default Saka Take Out last weekend

We did take out last weekend, mostly an assortment of their special rolls. Pleased to report that the quality was very good and the turnaround time for the order was reasonable for the first week of operations. They didn't have their liquor license yet but expected it shortly (and you couldn't BYOB). The only thing we didn't care for were the spring rolls which didn't take out well. Probably Ok eating in. All in all, we'd go back.
