Default Restaurants open on Christmas Day?

My Grandparents are visiting the area during Christmas this year. Are there any restaurants in the Lakes Region or Concord area that are open for Christmas?

Default Restaurants open on Cristmas Day

Generally, in the local papers, there will be listings for restaurants open Christmas Day. Check the papers for your area.

Default Pre-cooked meals

Generally, if you call ahead, some restaurants and delis will pre-cook a meal for you. Pick it up the day before, warm up the food and voila! I find this method far better than packing up the gang and head to a restaurant. Especially when the weather is not delightful.

If I head out to eat on Christmas Day, I feel pretty guilty about keeping the help away from their families.

I agree! Most restaurants that actually care about their employees' quality of life are closed on Christmas Day. I'm betting that, even if you found somewhere that was open, the caliber of service and attention to detail about what was coming out of the kitchen would be significantly lacking. Even McDonalds is closed on Christmas Day! Pick up a premade meal or, better yet, impress your grandparents by putting a turkey in the oven Christmas morning. That baby will be ready by early afternoon, and the house will smell like heaven. No one has to go out in the cold, and you get to gather around the table in your own home. Sounds better than any restaurant meal to me. Merry Christmas!

Default Not everyone has the same view

There's a bunch of people out there that offer to work (similar to turkey day)...especially if there is added incentive of extra pay.

My sister in law, not having anyone at home nor family in the area, used to work at a restaurant that was open on Christmas. She, and others, volunteered to work, either because they didn't have family or because they were paid overtime. Plus, once the restaurant closed, they sat down and had a nice meal with friends (the workers) . I'm sure that they did not cook a substandard meal that they were going to eat. Nor would an establishment risk bad publicity over a meal on Christmas that would have an effect on the rest of the meals the restaurant serves during the rest of the year.

I think you may be a little off base on this one.

Default Volunteer!

At times I will volunteer my time during the holidays serving meals to those who are unfortunate. rather then stay home. It really make me feel good and makes my day!

Can I asked where you do this? I would love too volunteer. I always look in the local papers...never see anything about serving meals. Thanks in advance.

Given I'm new to the area, and have no family here, I will be working Wolfe's Tavern on Christmas night so that my associates can be with family and friends. Hope to see you there.

Lol upthesaukee you are probably right - I actually know the hospitality business pretty well and the people that I know who work in local restaurants are way more like your sister-in-law than I'm giving credit. They are good people with lots of integrity. Maybe I was just projecting how I'D feel if I had to work Christmas day! I agree, it's a great option for people who may not have family nearby, or kids at home to entertain, and their generosity and willingness to make the holiday lovely for others should not go unnoticed. I seem to remember, in years past, that the Common Man in Ashland did a free meal on Christmas day for anyone in the community who wanted a place to gather... Don't know if that's still the case. At any rate, Happy Holidays to all! Don't mind my late night snarkyness.

Are any Chinese restaurants open Christmas? We're celebrating with our families the weekend before so we asked the kids what they'd like to eat on Christmas. They want Chinese!

Pfu-Gee's in Meredith is, by far, the best chinese food around! I don't know if they are planning to be open on Christmas, but it is definately worth investigating! YUM! And a really, really nice family...

That is touch and go every year. Google 'volunteer NH New Hampshire' and you should find a wealth of volunteer jobs. I usually volunteer at 'Helping Hands' in Concord as that is the nearest 'soup kitchen'. Someone just mentioned a Meredith church as giving a free meal. Give them a call and I bet they will put you on their list. You don't have to be a member of the church.

I did volunteer at Ashland Common Man about a decade ago. Alex Ray actually rolled up has sleeve and work with the crew. I will never forget the occasion.

Default Talking with a Business owner

He mentioned something about his insurance company will not cover liability or casualty if people that are not on the payroll and are not customers. So that means volunteering in a commercial kitchen may not happen? Somebody should tell our lawmakers that enough is enough!

Just feed them yourself instead of sending them out somewhere.

help me with this . What does a lack of insurance coverage have to do with our Lawmakers ? Im sure they could get the coverage, it's risk based and insuring non professionals around a kitchen would be a big risk so it would and should be real expensive. Or they could wing it and get sued when one of the volunteers cuts off his fingers. but again what do the lawmakers have to do with it ?

Default Litigation laws

The lawmakers are the ones that pass laws that allow everyone to sue whenever they like. So I blame the politicians, unless you know who to blame.

If Obama pushed for tort reform a lot of unnecessary lawsuits would go away especially as they relate to medical malpractice. He promised he would tackle this but he has been busy ruining the economy.

McDude:

I believe my comment was appropriate. Tort reform was promised and not delivered. The cost of insurance and malpractice suits continue to escalate. And by the way, I'm not the only one who feels he is doing a lousy job. Please check President Obama's approval ratings They are dropping rapidly.

That being said, I'm sure a rebound is in the offing as he and his cronies are trying to be productive by pressuring the Redskins to change their "offensive" team name. Now that is certainly a productive use of time.

Merry Christmas
