A separate 24-HP engine "drives" this boat up on a shore or on a beach at 6-MPH—and retracts the wheels. (No launch-site needed in Gilford!)

No boat-lift, either.

seems like it would be handy for an association with limited dockage, like suissevale or arcadia for instance.. park in the driveway, and head for the boatramp when its time for a cruise.

Not to stir the pot, but if we're talking about "the coolest boat in the world," I'd vote for this one. Of course, I'm a long-time multihull sailor. And I'm not really so sure how well this beast would fit on Winnie P.

Yes, and it may be the most expensive boat ever built per pound. It was built here in Anacortes, about two miles from my house. The soft sails were deemed inadequate, so they kept the building crew here to build the solid wing sail. It is longer than a 747 wing. We have a lot of good local boat builders here, but they also imported a lot of international talent. It is 90 ft. long with a beam of 90 ft. The America's Cup last winter was basically no contest. BMW Oracle outsailed Alinghi , the Swiss cup defender, quite easily. I had to get up around 5 AM to watch the two races on- line. There was no live TV. Tha America's Cup now resides in San Francisco. It will be interesting to see what kind of boat they choose for the next cup races.

Also it is twice as wide as a 747.With a wing sail span of 223 ft compared to the wing span of 102 ft for the 747.185 ft mast also.What a craft!!

I have to jump in and admit that I'm a huge Americas Cup fan. In 1987 my new girlfriend (now my wife) thought I was insane to stay up all night to watch the races from Fremantle. In 1992 I put a TV in the bay window of our house in Moultonboro so I could watch the races while I did yard work.

The picture of BMW Oracle's USA reminded me of this:

In 1988 there was an odd AC race between the single hulled 120' KZ1 and Dennis Conner's 90' wing sail catamaran Stars & Stripes. It was no contest with S&S winning easily. During the race there was an unforgettable moment when Stars & Stripes flew a hull and blasted forward like it was shot out of a cannon. The crew all lifted their fists in excitement and I jumped up like we had just won the Super Bowl. It was the most exhilarating moment I can remember related to sailing.

It's Funny. The reason for dropping the 12s from Americas Cup racing was it was getting ...Too Expensive................

I have lived near Newport (RI) since 1966. I have seen it all....Close Up. We still have the 12s..but now they are "Ride Boats". $125 gets you a "working" ride for two hours. It's still good to have them around though .
