Very Interesting, I wonder what the criteria were to qualify, suppose I could have read more to find out, but who would think Laconia? Like you said maybe they used the entire area. The other thing is Median household income, You wouldn't think 62k would get you in. Like anywhere though, I guess the top is living right next to the bottom earners in perfect harmony, Or partial harmony in many cases.

My guess is a lot of people reporting that as being their residence for tax purposes but don't actually live in those lakefront homes full time. I would have thought places like Wolfboro and Moultainboro would be up there with their expensive waterfront estates.

1. Statistics prove there are lies, and damned lies.

2. Statistics allow you to tell your side of the lie.

Take Laconia (and surrounding areas), and count those who are legal residents (voting domicile), property owners and renters, and I would guess the numbers would drop significantly.

And that 62k must be per person to qualify which still sounds low to be nationally ranked. Many southern NH towns are over 100k as a median household income. Forget Mass,NY and Cali. I just looked again, I think there numbers must be 40 years old, The median home value in Nashua is higher than that. I'm tired maybe I'm delirious, I'm obviously missing something.

Moultonboros water front real estate is worth over a billion dollars alone so add the other towns water front property's in around the lakes and that's where I would think you get that formula....

It looks like the data is based off of the Micropolitan and/or Metropolitan Statistical Areas that are used by the Census. These areas cover a wider area than just the community they are named after. Claremont-Lebanon, NH-VT is on the list and I know that is the Micropolitan Statistical Area that covers more than a dozen towns from each side of the CT River. I'm not sure what the boundaries are for the Laconia MSA but my guess would be it includes several other towns in the Lakes Region.

Default Laconia Micropolitan Statistical Area

The Laconia Micropolitan Statistical Area is comprised of the entirety of Belknap County, and Belknap County alone.

From last census (2010): The median income for a household in the county was $54,929 and the median income for a family was $64,875. Males had a median income of $46,378 versus $34,690 for females. The per capita income for the county was $28,517. About 5.2% of families and 8.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.7% of those under age 18 and 10.0% of those age 65 or over.
