If the link works, this was on CNN this morning.

Wow that is some news. I think I'll start booking my flights out of Manchester next year. Seating is going to be wide open for a while.

There may soon be a run on passport applications.

My concern is that carrying a passport means I have something else to lose.

I agree and think it's actually a disgrace we need a passport to fly domestic.. It's 2015 lets wake the hell up, we shouldn't even need passports anymore. Take my info from one of the 100 things I've had to register for and give my information to the government.

From the TSA website:

Forgot Your ID?
In the event you arrive at the airport without proper ID, because it is lost or at home, you may still be allowed to fly. TSA officers will request you present two other forms of ID bearing your name. One of the items must bear your name and other identifying information such as photo, address, phone number, social security number or date of birth.

There is no standard list of what alternate forms of ID are acceptable. Examples include: temporary paper driver’s licenses, non-driver IDs, social security cards, birth certificates, marriage licenses and credit cards.

You may also be asked to provide additional information, TSA has other ways to confirm your identity, like using publicly available databases, so you can reach your flight.

The NH politicians caving in on "Real ID" should be removed from office.

Make sure you have a passport handy for whichever airport you are using for your return flight....

I have not seen an answer for this question..... Even if NH does not require people to have a passport to LEAVE a NH airport will you need one for your return flight?

I would hate to fly to DEN from MHT only to find I need a passport to return from DEN to MHT.

You would not be able to fly out of any airport, NH or otherwise.

It is not a matter of NH allowing or preventing anything, it is a federal requirement. If you want to board a commercial flight or enter certain buildings then you need to show a certain level of identification. Very soon a NH driver's license will no longer be considered adequate identification. They do not meet Federal security standards.

Like Manchester Airport wasn't struggling enough already...

Remember all the 9/11 flights were domestic. Real ID was put in to insure that all states put in enough rigor in the drivers license application to weed out fraud that had allowed non citizens to get a license with as little as an electric bill. states had over ten years to comply . I was part of a company that produced 44 states drivers licenses however not NH

See in today's paper Nah has a reprieve until June . Looks like they will give people an option to not have a picture on license if they don't want but then they will need a passport to get on a plane

Political issues aside; you can get a "passport card" for $35.

What happens to us license holders? Do we need to get a new license if NH smartens up and updates their stuff?

An adult first time applicant for a passport card will pay a total of $55 in fees.

Default Losing it

This seems obvious, but...
Make photocopies of your ID, CC etc and carry someplace other than in your pocket. My wife and I do not use the same credit cards. If one of us loses a wallet, we continue on, using the other's set of cards. (It has never happened.)

Working around things. You won't be the first to show up at the gate after losing your wallet. A neighbor traveling in Hawaii called me late on a Friday afternoon, lost wallet, couldn't get past TSA. I called DMV, and a gentleman there said it had happened before. He would stay late, have the local police call him since NH was not part of a national database. Ten minutes later, all solved. NH State employees are tops.

Keep in mind that the new federal requirement requires your social security number on the license. With your Date of Birth already present, a "lost" or stolen license provides an identity thief all they need to hijack your identity.

Not true. While you will need to provide proof of you social security number to the issuing authority, your social security number will not be printed on the license.

Below are what the Act requires be printed on your license:

Full legal name
Residential address
Birth date
Gender
Driver’s license/identification card number
Digital front-facing photograph
Signature

However, once you submit your social security number it will be verified and stored along with your other personal information in a federal database.

Taken from the Union Leader link posted by Rusty:
Quote:
If a bill is approved, the state would have a five-year transition period when official New Hampshire identification will be accepted under the federal rules while state license holders go through the renewal process.
So it sounds like they'll get updated as licenses get renewed by individuals on the state's normal 5-year license renewal schedule.

Our federal legislators want/demand a national Federal ID.
That did not pass.
So up comes a state drivers license/ID - that is exactly the same as the proposed Federal ID. Mandated, of course, by the Federal Government.

Makes sense, doesn't it?
