Default Female Red-winged Blackbird

Today I went back to Abenaki Pond in Wolfeboro and got a few images of a female Red-winged Blackbird. I spotted this one today and discovered very shortly afterwards that getting the shots caused me to be covered in ticks. I got them all though before they got me. I had 7 ticks on me and I did not venture very far into the brush. I actually stayed on the outskirts, but there must be tons of them there. I was not even out of my vehicle for more than 5 minutes. I guess that is all that it takes. Anyways here is an image of the female that I got today. Their appearance is quite different from their male counterparts.

The male RWBB has always been a nemesis bird for me. They are so skittish and when I finally manage to get one in my viewfinder, they are a real challenge to expose properly. I can never seem to get the whole bird looking good. It is very difficult for me to get the red and yellow to not look like a blob and on the rare occasion when I manage to get the red and yellow looking good the rest looks like crap. Here is the only image of a male that I have been able to get in which I was happy with the exposure. This one is from a few years back.

I have always thought that red-wing blackbirds are quite beautiful!

Talking Rwbb

I had no idea of what the female looked like. She is very pretty. Great shots of both. Sorry you were attacked by ticks - ick!
