New Sailboat to the lake!

Hello all! Over the past couple of years I've been rebuilding and restoring my wonderful sailboat the Shoestring Hallyards among other sailboats!

Just a few weeks back we had our first wet test on the lake, we sailed out of alton bay from Downings Landing and up only about a mile or so, making sure nothing leaked. Checking out the fridge for functionality~ all that stuff!

Me and my friends are super excited to get more familiar with the boat, more familiar with navigating the water, and more familiar with Winniepasake.. because well, at least to my knowledge. There are few other places in NH where i can launch a boat this deep, if anyone knows of any though, lmk! I have a draft of about 3' with everything pulled up, and 6.5' when the keel is down.

Congratulations on all your work. Winnipesaukee is a great lake for sailing, but make sure you are on top of the weather forecast. When the weather gets bad, it gets really bad. Over my years of sailing on this Lake, I have found that if I was in trouble (weather-wise), it was best to put into port at the first safe place you came to, private or public.

That sounds like some good advice thank you! Speaking of ports and stuff actually.. My boat is kinda a lot of work to haul in and out, I signed up for this form after reading thru ALL the multitude of threads the community has made talking about there being no overnight anchoring.

How do I learn more about how like.. ports work? Haha, I don't even know where to start its all foreign to me! if i had to pull into a port do i need to like, radio ahead or call? How much do things cost? Is there a ports 101 document i could read

Winnipesaukee is nothing like the coast. There are no-cost public docks at The Weirs, Meredith, Center Harbor, Wolfeboro, and Alton. No dock masters or anything like that.

Taking an afternoon or evening drive around the lake would be a great way to familiarize yourself with these areas.

How big is this boat? I think Fay's Boat Yard in Gilford has transient moorings. Docks and slips are in short supply, start looking now for 2025. "Any port in a storm" means feel free to pull into the nearest dock or duck behind an island. Prevailing winds are from the NW, but in a squall anything goes. You'll find many sailors at Fay's who can give you better info than most of us powerboaters here.

Thanks! Ok that clears up a lot, and makes it less-stressfull for me! Now im a bit less worried about where i'll pull in incase the weather gets bad!

I've heard about Fay's on the fourm! Guess i should give them a call, it would be nice for two or three weekends out of the year to get a transient mooring. My boat is a rhodes 22 and is 22ft long! I keep all my pictures online here!

That is only true when they are not attended- Meredith and CH both have attendants during busy times
and charge non-residents

You’re referring to the boat launches, not the public docks, correct?
