Lakeview Inn, Wolfeboro
We called for a reservation for 4 this afternoon for dinner at 6:00. We had friends who had never been to this restaurant and we used to like going there for their delicious Veal Jacqueline. Anyhow, we arrived on time, paraded into the dining room, which was empty, and waited a moment. We were "greeted" by a harried, unpleasant blonde woman who announced that the dining room was closed. I told her we had a reservation, and she repeated
that the dining rom was closed and we could either eat in the lounge or leave! Our guests thought we should stay, so we did, and this ONE WOMAN BAND who I think might be the owner was bartender, waitress, busboy for everyone there! Needless to say, the service was terrible, but the veal was delicious. Every table was filled, people had to wait forever, and if she had just explained that she was overwhelmed or had shown any manners at all, we could overlook her attitude. We will not be going back soon. I am a bit ashamed of the tip I left, but my husband said he would not have given her that much! |

"Bartender, waitress, busboy for everyone there" seems to be the standard in our local restaurants. She does seem to be the "weak link" there.
The Lakeview Inn is closed Monday and Tuesday, which limits the number of times that I remind myself to zoom to their reasonably priced and excellent meals. (With everything else being so good, I've never had the veal!) Three weeks ago, there was clearly a lack of coordination of the two (only) waitresses to their respective tables. When I spoke to our waitress (on some forgotten subject), she said it was her last night there before college! |

I may be wrong but I don't believe it is the owner. The father who owned it died and the son is divorced from his wife, both of whom ran it for years. So unless there are new developments, I don't think the woman was the owner.

More on the Lakeview Inn
I just had an e-mail from our friends from the "fiasco dinner" on Wed., when
"Blondie" was wearing many aprons and a nasty attitude. He was charged, on his credit card, not only for their dinner, but for someone else's, as well. Paul promised to call him back, did not do so, and has finally agreed to credit his card for the correct amount. WATCH your credit card statements! |
