New Guard Rail Mania

Anyone notice the vast amounts of new guard rails being placed all over the state including here in the Lakes Region?

Some, tearing up good old wood post metal strand guard rails.

Even local back roads.

All should know that guard rails can be ones that have a "rust" patina. And that wood posts can be used.

Where is all of this money coming from for these guard rails?

This is not just a few repairs. This is a massive amount of new guard rails.

Yes, everyone wants safe roadways. But if new guard rails are placed for every dip in the road/shoulder - most of the state would have guard rails.

Why the bright metal ones instead of the more visually subdued rust patina ones - like the ones used up in the Notch area on Route 93.

Where is all of this money coming from? Why now?

SAFE ROADS.

Far better if the striping is done: especially thru intersections where two left turn lanes exist and follow through. AND
Universal painting for entering roundabouts. Yesterday, I emailed DOT..../
They should adopt the universal line of triangles, with point towards the cars entering, which denotes YIELD!
I was entering and prepared to yield, when driver was stopped in the circle and waiving me to enter - an accident waiting to happen.
Where do some learn to drive???

Its too bad they don't put them where they are really needed. Like on Route 11 heading north just before Ames. The old wood ones are resting on buildings. Who decided to put them up on back roads but not here. Typical idiots.

They use the post and wire type up in the notch because of snow. Not for the patina. Standard metal guardrails act as snow fences and the wire ones let the snow blow through. The wire type do not hold up to plowing as well so they are replacing them with the standard W beam type, thus replacing the many rotted wood post that most likely would not stop something like a pickup truck from going down an embankment.

Other areas, other states . . . use rustic brown guardrails.

There are no post and wire guardrails in Franconia notch.The original guardrails that were installed when the "new" Notchway highway was built had metal guardrails.They were replaced a few years ago to a brown or rust color and narrower version.
