Is THIS the Coolest Boat in the World?
A separate 24-HP engine "drives" this boat up on a shore or on a beach at 6-MPH—and retracts the wheels. (No launch-site needed in Gilford!) No boat-lift, either. Quote:
They've made 500 of these—99% of those produced are operated in salt water—and have a three-year warranty. It is said to handle very rocky shorelines—now where would this boat come in handy, I ask you? |

It would be ironic if your boat got stuck in the mud before the hull got wet!

seems like it would be handy for an association with limited dockage, like suissevale or arcadia for instance.. park in the driveway, and head for the boatramp when its time for a cruise.

At 6mph it would take me 3/4 of an hour to get from my driveway to the ocean.

I would love that as a present for Christmas. I am sure many other boaters would like it also. I wouldn't have to worry about a dock. Just drive the boat in the water and then drive it out. AWSOME! If I get it for Christmas I will give everyone from the forum a ride.

well...
Not to stir the pot, but if we're talking about "the coolest boat in the world," I'd vote for this one. Of course, I'm a long-time multihull sailor. And I'm not really so sure how well this beast would fit on Winnie P.

Now We're Talking Cool
Yes, and it may be the most expensive boat ever built per pound. It was built here in Anacortes, about two miles from my house. The soft sails were deemed inadequate, so they kept the building crew here to build the solid wing sail. It is longer than a 747 wing. We have a lot of good local boat builders here, but they also imported a lot of international talent. It is 90 ft. long with a beam of 90 ft. The America's Cup last winter was basically no contest. BMW Oracle outsailed Alinghi , the Swiss cup defender, quite easily. I had to get up around 5 AM to watch the two races on- line. There was no live TV. Tha America's Cup now resides in San Francisco. It will be interesting to see what kind of boat they choose for the next cup races.

The boat is a Strand-Craft 122,max speed 55knots with the optional 14000 hp power plants. You can check her out at Strand-Craft.com,cat't you just see her coming through the broads then into the Weirs channel. A few more pics

BMW Oracle (Americas Cup)
Incredable Videos. Check out Race #1. (About 45 min.) Oracle's wing mast is clearly visible. This boat flys the center hull ALL the time. NB

I have to jump in and admit that I'm a huge Americas Cup fan. In 1987 my new girlfriend (now my wife) thought I was insane to stay up all night to watch the races from Fremantle. In 1992 I put a TV in the bay window of our house in Moultonboro so I could watch the races while I did yard work.
The picture of BMW Oracle's USA reminded me of this: In 1988 there was an odd AC race between the single hulled 120' KZ1 and Dennis Conner's 90' wing sail catamaran Stars & Stripes. It was no contest with S&S winning easily. During the race there was an unforgettable moment when Stars & Stripes flew a hull and blasted forward like it was shot out of a cannon. The crew all lifted their fists in excitement and I jumped up like we had just won the Super Bowl. It was the most exhilarating moment I can remember related to sailing. More great shots of USA: |

Americas Cup
It's Funny. The reason for dropping the 12s from Americas Cup racing was it was getting ...Too Expensive................
I have lived near Newport (RI) since 1966. I have seen it all....Close Up. We still have the 12s..but now they are "Ride Boats". $125 gets you a "working" ride for two hours. It's still good to have them around though . NB |

This Drift Isn't My Fault!
First SIKSUKR—now the Webmaster! Who knew?
1) Hmmm...Sail number ends in 189. Haven't we seen this boat before? 2) A Hobie 16 (what this one is) is one of the easiest to get back upright. 3) That one's not too bad. It's this manuver you want to avoid! Things can go wrong for monohulls, too. This Santana 22 (same model as one on Lake Winnipesaukee mentioned here), was dismasted after being caught by a wave: ___________________ Sixty-feet wide, and 125' long, Steve Fossett's world-circumnavigating "Cheyenne" catamaran came up for sale at just $650,000. ("Needs work") Just think of being the "privileged vessel" everywhere you travel on Lake Winnipesaukee! ___________________ Except as blueprints, I doubt the "Strandcraft 122" exists—much less able to do 57-MPH; but after setting a 57-MPH world record using only wind, this "Hydroptere" truly stands as the coolest boat in the world! Eh?
The Strand-Craft 122 only exists inside a computer. (Details marked).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23yHn_deETQ The Hydroptere set a record at 70 MPH in the first leg of a two-way run at the world's speed record for sailcraft; however, nobody was hurt, and the underside can now be seen in great detail. Now there are three similar Hobie 16 catamarans to be seen on the southern end of Lake Winnipesaukee—including one from PhotoPost: Last edited by ApS; 03-08-2013 at 04:09 AM. "Obsoleting" Waterfront Properties?
Quote:
2) Replies in this thread suggest that Winter Harbor neighbors could cut a ½-hour off a trip to town by an "overland detour" at Wolfeboro's Carry Beach. 3) But think of the folks moored on Mirror Lake: in seconds, they could "launch" at the Libby-Museum ramp and travel all over Lake Winnipesaukee—by boat! 4) There must be other channels and zones on The Big Lake that can be bypassed "amphibiously". You don't have to pay Property Taxes for "waterfront properties"! 5) For rafting, there would be no need for "legs". |

There would be no need for "rafting" if she was in the boat.

"Spring" Is In the Air...
Just $190,000 to clear those ice ridges...
Land/Water Truck, but at $1.2M, pricey... There is one of these near me presently, but it's a cheaper version. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-mo...194045755.html The "cheap" version is designed so the "bubble" hangs underneath.
