moorings for Alton residents
Does anyone know if there are options for Alton residents who do not own waterfront property to place moorings anywhere along the shoreline ?
Thinking about putting a trailer sailer in the water and I am looking for options. Thanks pmj |

If you don't mind the drive...
You can use my mooring.
Moorings off lakefront owner property have to be approved by Concord every five years for suitability and distance from shore. Just pay for a 2004 sticker fee, and you can use it for the rest of the summer. (Hoping you don't have too large a sailboat for the mooring). |

This is the law
regarding moorings in Lake Winnipesaukee:
http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/...270/270-61.htm It does not specifically prohibit moorings for non-landowners. But you have to prove you have legal access to the land. |

I didn't do my homework
NH has laws (RSA) and administrative rules. The rules have the force of law but are written more or less by the adminstration to implement the laws written by the legislators.
So in this bunch of rules: http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rules/saf-c400.html I found this: (c) If the person desiring the single mooring is not the owner of shorefront property, the owner of shorefront property allowing access to the mooring shall file the application, form DSSS 18, on behalf of that person. So really only shorefront property owners can apply for moorings, but they can allow someone else to install and use them. But they can't rent or sell them. |

Mooring
That would make more sense that it would be a home owner. I wouldnt want to come up one weekend and find a mooring out in front of my house!

We just did it
My wife and I just went through the process for a mooring at her Dad's
place on Wini. She had to get the deed and state a valid reason as to why we needed a mooring ect.. The whole process took a couple months but we now have a valid mooring permit, we had our boat on it for the first time this past weekend. The sticker fee is $25 and if your sticker falls off the mooring you need to replace it and pay another $25. It is a yearly fee. |

thanks for the info,everyone
Well, that settles that. Ames Farm is looking like an OK option at this point since I don't own or have access to shore front property.
Seems a bit silly for the state to ask "why do you need a mooring", doesn't it? I bet they get a few wise crack answers with that one madrasahs , thank you for the offer. We won't need a mooring this summer. I am researching options for next summer. PMJ Last edited by pmj; 08-09-2004 at 07:58 PM. |

I bet they get a few wise crack answers with that one I'm thinking that that type of question is the start to a line by Bill Envall, the comedian, and would end with "Here's your sign!!!!!!". the answer is open to a variety of subjects, ie: "I'm doing some money laundering and need to hide $25 real fast". Enjoy your time on the lake. |
