Default N.H. Builder Recommendations Needed!

You all helped me with locating the best areas in which to build a new house in Wolfeboro. I am now gathering names of builders, well drillers, septic designers, etc.

We are looking for reasonable and reputable builders who can do either standard (stick) construction and timber frame construction. No problem if they only do one or the other.

Any suggestions of who to use or who to avoid?

Thank you in advance.

Default Well company

Please do yourselves a favor and check these people out. I promise you, you will not go wrong. They have done 3 wells for me and a half dozen for friends of mine and so on down the line. Very professional, quality workmanship as well as materials and extremely neat during and after the job is completed. Both Dan and Jeff are great to work with and very helpful all through the process.

Tradesman was my second choice when I built my house. I won't mention #1 since I live west of Laconia and he wouldn't travel that far.

Default Keep The Recommendations Coming!

Hey guys,

Thanks for the recommendations! Keep 'em coming!

I also need a reputable septic designer.

It was mentioned in my other thread, but I failed to mention in this thread that I will be doing the bulk of the work in 2012, although the site prep work will be starting before then.

Tom Varney in Alton (875-7110) does a good job. Not sure if he sticks his head into Wolfeboro or not. For an installer the contractor I list a couple threads before JP Builders also does installs.

Default Great contractor!

Give David Donohue in Wolfeboro a call - 569-5326. He built my garage last summer and I couldn't have been more pleased with every aspect of the project. He was great/fun to work with and did the job right on or a bit under budget. I paid sub-contractors directly and he used local and quality people. Whenever possible, he selected people whom I knew. He also spent about half of a day helping me to transplant a garden that had to be moved for the project.
And, he was just delightful in "working with" my four year old grandson who was staying with me during part of the project. He's a solid guy!

I understood that direct solicitation/advertising of builder services or any other service on the forums is not allowed and now a builder is posting "product" photo's in the photo gallery???
The classifieds is the right place for these photos and not the photo gallery.

There was a thread recently ( I looked quickly but couldn't find it) that brought up this issue and if I remember correctly a moderator stated that although a business owner could not start a thread in order to promote or solicit business they were allowed to respond to a thread.
I believe, per my understanding, that this poster you referred to is within forum rules.

Hi I found this from Don:

However, it is perfectly OK for contractors or other service providers to reply to questions and offer their services. If someone is looking for a plumber I would expect plumbers to reply and say "I'm great, use me". Some self-promotion is expected in replies like that and I don't consider them advertisements. Connecting contractors and customers is an important function of the Home Improvement section.

When a new member posts a question and a business replies I carefully check their IP and host information to make sure they are not the same person. That has happened a few times but is very rare.

As a general rule, contractors and other service providers should not start threads but are welcome to reply.

MarkinNH I agree with you. My question/concern was the photo posts in the Photo Gallery not the Forums that look like an ad for the builder. The photos are labeled with names - "Custom Home, Southesidebarn" with the builders name which is his user name and that looks like an ad to me. JMHO.

AC, I don't think that anyone is really complaining, but if I were a builder (or paid advertiser) and a competitor was using the forums to advertise I could understand some resentment.

Default Time for me to chime in

I am the builder your all speaking about. I am a paid advertiser to the forum and was simply offering my services. I post pictures to gallery because I am proud of what my business does and am trying to expand into the Winni region. I was not familiar with rules for posting photos to the gallery, so I have decided to remove them.
To give you all a little background on who I am, I've been in business now for 7 years and all of my work has been word of mouth to this point. Due to the recent economic pinch many of us have been feeling I decided to give this forum a try. Thought it would be a more personalized approach to advertising, rather than a yellow pages or newspaper ad.
I guess the bottom line is I am just a builder offering his services to a community.
Thank you,
Michael

Your posts in this thread indeed have merit. Unfortunatly they also make you guilty, of doing the very thing, you say that people shouldn't be doing

People in glass house's shouldn't throw stones.
Getting dressed in their basement is a good idea to.
