Default ...propane smell test!

Hey Bunkie, opening up that lakeside cottage this weekend? Well, propane smells, it's been odorized back at the propane factory to make it smelly so any leaks can be detected because propane is very volatile. Propane is a by-product from the making of gasoline.

Could be a good move to send wifey down into the crawl space to sniff around for any leaks before you light up the old kitchen stove. Or, be a champ, and do-it-yourself!

Every once in a while some do-it-yourselfer went and used a compression fitting designed for water and not for propane when installing the 3/8" soft copper supply line from the tank to the stove, or something.

As of January 1 2007, propane and natural gas installers and servicers are required to be state licensed which requires training. As everyone knows, there's no way to keep the home owner from fiddling with their own home, plus it is legally ok to do it. One makes their own bed.....etc.

There's also battery and plug-in propane detectors similar to CO detectors, except the propane detectors get installed low, like in a crawl space or basement because leaking propane gas is heavier than air, just like gasoline fumes.
