Just curious when houses, particularly island properties, are opened for the season. I usually open the first weekend after ice out (a few times before ice out is official), depending on weather and my schedule. If I don't think I'll be up regularly, or if it is especially cold, I might not put the water in, but make it as livable as possible.

We open as soon as we can get there. First weekend after ice-out typically.

10-Days after official ice out is the smartest time to go out due to a few factors. The major reason we wait, is to let any wood/debris that was locked up in the ice, to sink to the bottom or to float into coves/shoreline areas. Wood or debris typically "settles out" after about a week or so. Im not interested in getting to my camp so badly that I want to damage my hull or transom in the process.

I was on the Boston Marathon Race Committee for 36 years, so the day after Patriots Day was our opening.
The day after the third Monday. |
