Default Kevin's Cafe at the Weirs

Hi,

We were in for lunch at Kevin's in Moultonborough Friday and were talking with Kevin. He said he was just finalizing a deal to open a place down on the pier at the Weirs.

His plan is to essentially have his lunch menu with the exception of some fried items (which is too bad- I would love to grab a quart box of fried clams and take them back onto the boat). The good news is that they will have their crab cakes. I had them as an appetizer, they are fantastic- real lump crab, unbelievable.

Hopefully it all comes together for him, Kevin's would be a welcome addition down there. Lest anyone think I am associated in any way (I know I have posted a few flattering things about this place now), I have eaten there twice and just met Kevin a the other day.

I'm surprised no fried foods (or maybe limited I don't know.) I would think people would like to grab an order of them and walk around. I know I would.

Default Lease

I think the menu restrictions are based on the other tenants in the building- most leases preclude a landlord from bring direct competion (same food) into the same building/ plaza.

AWESOME! That is HUGE! This will add a much needed option for food in that area. I'm all for the fried food/fast food type thing every once in a while but when it is your only option in the area it gets tired. My kids love going to the Weirs and we usually end up eating junk. I can't wait to have an option like Kevin's in the area. Great news! Do you know which storefront he will occupy?

I think this will be a great addition to the Weirs.

Best of luck to you, and I'm really looking forward to trying the clam cakes I've been reading about here in the forum!

Default Great News

I hope Kevin can keep one arm in a pot in Moultonboro, and the other arm in a pot in the Weirs, so we can experience it all simultaneously

Great, finally another reason to go the Weirs. I can only eat so much biker Mexican food. (love Crazy Gringo)

So that's the old "Something About Mary's"? That means no sit-down food just a window?

Chef Fisk are you going to offer stir fry with those big wok cookers? That could be a healthy alternitive to go along with your seafood.

Default food

pennypenny,

I will have my signature shrimp scampi on the menu using the big woks and I will probably have a chicken teriyaki on the menu also. I want to keep it simple and great food. Thanks for your suggestion.

We have heard alot of good things about Kevin's in Moultonborough. We did go there last Friday for ourselves. The food was good but the service just was not there. We waited about ten minutes to place our drink order and another fifteen to place our food order. We ahd been in the rest. for forty five minutes before our food finally came and one of the orders was wrong. By the time the correct plate came, my wife and daughter were already done with their dinner. We ordered refills for our drinks, the waitress was busy so she had her helper bring us refills in coke cans so we could refill our own glasses. Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing the place. The food was good. They do however need to square away the service end of things. Hopefully Kevin can do this before things get out of control with having 2 rest.

i am a very big fan of kevin's but i think at times if they get busy service falls off a lot. we will keep going but last Labor day night was really bad such that if that was the first time we had gone we wouldn't go back, but as I said will continue to enjoy Kevin's great food just hope it is not too busy

My sister went up this past weekend and told me she tried Kevins after hearing me talk about it. I have not been in yet, I was telling her about the good feedback on this forum. She commented about the same thing - the service. She did tell me the food was very good but the service could improve.....Interesting....

Default service

Thank you for your feedback on the service at Kevins cafe. We are getting our summer help back, therefore service will be as good as the food that you all have come to enjoy.
As far as Kevin's Cafe at the pier, their is no seating available except for what is on the pier. It will all be take out with the same great food. We have boat parking so that you can have your crabcakes, oysters and chowder to enjoy on your boat.
Again any more information you might want to know about both restaurants will be updated frequently on our website, www.kevinscafe.com
Thank you all and see you soon

Default Boat Parking for Kevin's ath the Pier

Hi Chef,
When you say "boat parking", are you referring to the public docks at the Weirs, or have you made other arrangements ?
Looking forward to checking out the new local.
Thanks

I think that if you end up with the boat on the dock, it is called parking.

Default Steamers on the Pier?

Wow. The food fare at the Weirs has certainly been uneven over the past decade or so. Kevin can certainly upgrade the quality and variety of the options available to the summer boater and beachbomber. For anyone who has traded at Kevin's Moultonborough venue can attest, the freshness and quality of his product will not be compromised by the demands of a potentially very different clientele.

Thumbs down Not so good.....

Didnt have the best experience...

Saturday afternoon the GF and I decided to take the boat out for a spin and enjoy a late lunch on the water... We looked over Kevin's menu, and it is pretty extensive, lots of choices. I decide on the chicken salad wrap, she went with the BLT, both come with fries. There was nobody in line ahead of us, and 3 ladies working. My GF placed the order, while I went to get the boat uncovered, buffed & fluffed, gassed etc...

I finish all of my tasks and still no GF... I call her cell, she is still waiting for the food! Long story short, 25 MINUTES for 2 easy to make sandwiches! Glad I wasnt blocking the gas dock!

We finally get out on the water to have lunch. Her BLT maybe had 3 pieces of bacon, and my chicken salad wrap was big, but the wrap was kinda stale (you know how they fall apart and taste kinda dry)...

All in all a pretty poor experience....

Woodsy,
Sorry about your experience at the pier. Almost finished working out the kinks here and will be ready for full time service next week gearing up for bike week. I will personally be down there those days and will ensure the service, and food will be what everyone has come to expect at Kevin's cafe in Moultonboro. No one will be dissappointed.
Thank you

Default Crab Cake Saturday Night

Hi Kevin,
We made our first trip to the Weirs on Saturday night. Our first stop was for a crab cake. It was delicious served over greens with that heavenly sauce.
YUMMY... ... It was later on Saturday evening - approx 8:00 and it did take awhile to get the crab cake and we did voice the same concern to each other that when the pier gets busy this could be a problem. But we have faith in you Kevin we know you will get the kinks out. The crab cakes are worth the wait... our best of luck to you....

Thumbs up Great new destination

We went over Memorial Day weekend. There were 6 of us. We ordered 6 sandwiches all different and 1 calamari. There were only 2 working. One taking orders, one preparing food. After 30 minutes we had our food and were back on the boat to enjoy lunch. The sandwiches were well worth the wait. Outstanding! They forgot to include our calamari! Keep in mind that this is a new business and they need to work out the kinks. They will need to add employees to decrease wait time and keep quality up. I am thrilled that Kevin's is at Weirs and cannot wait to go back.

Thumbs up Kevin's Cafe at the Weirs

We had the pleasure of dining at Kevin's Cafe at the Weirs this past Sunday night and our dinner was absolutely fantastic!!! Our vegetarian was thrilled with her veggie wrap and the homemade onion rings. I had the crab cake sandwich (ordered the sauce on the side) with o-rings and it was out of this world!!! Our son enjoyed his first taste of mahi and everyone agrees that Kevin's fries are terrific - crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. Rattlesnake Guy was unadventurous with a hot dog and fries, but he seemed quite happy too.

The order before us were beautiful looking burgers, which I almost ordered but thankfully I went with the crab cakes. I doubt that I will order anything other than them in the future. I don't know what kind of magic is at hand here, but I like it!

Our very own Meredith Lady is the manager and happened to be working by herself on Sunday evening. Even after the Cafe officially closed I might add. She is amazing! You should have seen her in action, zipping around the kitchen with grace and speed. She is wonderfully pleasant and is definitely an asset to Kevin's Cafe.

We also got to meet Kevin. He seems like a very nice guy. We look forward to many trips back to the Cafe and wish him all the luck with his two restaurants.

Thanks Meredith Lady for the wonderful meal and visit! You're terrific!!! See you soon!

Had lunch today at Kevin's (my 2nd visit) along with three of my co-workers. Three crab-cake sandwiches and 1 mahi-mahi sandwich. All of us were in agreement - VERY good!!

A great lunch for a perfect day at the lake.

Default Lunch on Saturday

Had lunch there Saturday - SUPERB!

My wife, who can by hyper critical of anything I suggest, was highly complimentary of the reuben. Shes had reubans at many different places so it really takes something unique to make one memorable - the topping in lieu of the kraut was unique and made the sandwich.

I had 3 young girls on break from Camp Nokomis who were happy to get hot, fresh food and I was happy to have an economical lunch.

We'll now be going to the main restaurant next week - looking forward to it.

Thanks Kevin!

Default Saturday

We decided to take a boat ride up to the Weirs for lunch and stopped at Kevin's and grabbed lunch. It was fantastic as usual! What a treat to be able to get this caliber of food and enjoy it floating on the lake.

We also met Meredith Lady (who is real nice) and one of her sons - they do a great job there. It was good chatting with her.

Default add me to the list...

We went here for a quick bite on Wednesday, July 15th.
Add me to the fan club. Great Crab Cake ($9, but, what the heck) and cheese fries..pretty healthy, huh?
Food was excellent...as was the service. Very informative and enthusiastic young man behind the counter, explaining how happy they were to be doing so much business.
As a side note...the Weirs strip was as busy that afternoon (Wed, the 15th) as any non bike week, weekday afternoon, as I have seen in many years.
Packed. Actually had a hard time parking (went by car), and there were people everywhere.

Default Kevin's

Add me to the list of fans. Had a light lunch at Kevin's Saturday. I went for the crab cake sandwich and my better half for the chicken salad wrap. Both were excellent. Service was prompt and fast. What a wonderful addition to the Weirs Beach food scene. Let's just hope they're able to hang in there with this crazy economy.

Default Kevin's at the Pier

Well... after purchasing fabulous $2.00 sunglasses on the pier at Weirs Beach last week, two friends and I walked several doors down and ordered lunch from Kevin's. Our lunches were wonderful! My friends ordered the crab cakes, which they deemed the best they had ever eaten.... and I had the chicken salad wrap which was deliciously fresh. One friend ordered onion rings, which she LOVED (I snitched a few, and can attest to her accolades). Three cheers to Kevin and Laura (who was the chef du jour last week when we were on the pier). We shall return!!

Default Kevin's at the Pier

I was fortunate enough to meet Meredith Lady and her fantastic reuben sandwich today. I will certainly be back to Kevin's at the Pier the next time I visit Weirs Beach.

Talking Tasty!

Great job RI Swamp Yankee on the picture! More of us should take them and add them to our restaurant review posts.

Now I am jonzing for some crabcakes! I sense a boat trip coming on this weekend.

Default Kevin's

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned the "all you can eat fried clams" at Kevin's every Friday night. We were in last Friday...they were AWESOME...and more than a "normal" person can eat on the first serving. The clams were sweet, tender and perfectly fried. Fries were hot and fluffy inside. Cole slaw was also excellent. We all had the clams...8 thumbs up!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Although you can mix the different parts of a lobster in whatever proportion you want to make the ultimate lobster roll at home, buying a bag of SEAWATCH frozen clam strips and cooking them at home is a -01 on a scale of 1-10. This was my dinner tonight. Enjoy them at the restaurants folks, because by the bag, they s*ck.

Couldn't resist saying how bad they were at home tonight, because I wish I was at Kevin's! Thanks TPG, this was exactly the thread I didn't need to read tonight.

Pineedles,

Great review! Finally a negative review that no one will complain about!

ML,

Is Kevin's at the Weirs still open and is the Friday night all-you-can-eat clam deal still on? Thanks for the great service this summer! Great fast food and service with a caring smile.

I like to cook whole belly clams at home but there are 2 big problems. One is finding good frying clams in small quantities and the other is you can make one huge mess in the kitchen that you will hear about for weeks.

Default Pineedles...

Was it the clams...or the cook?
I just may need to go back to Kevin's Cafe tomorrow night...when we walked in last week, the nice blonde lady said they had the best fried seafood in the area...I can only vouch for the clams...as I already said...FABULOUS...but may have more to say about some of their other fried seafood by this weekend. Oh, the dark haired lady was pretty nice too...please save a table for us on Friday night.

Default Kevin's at the Pier

R2B-Alas, summer has ended (at least at the Pier). Kevin's Cafe at the Pier is closed for the season. Yes, Kevin's Cafe is still doing AYCE fried clams on Friday nights and also our lobster buffet the last Sunday of every month. Thanks for the kind words about the Pier-our thanks to all of you for being our customers and forum friends!!

Default Kevin's Take-Out

We probably had more of Kevn's Take-Out this summer than we did of my own cooking. We are addicted, and to our delight received two separate gift certificates from friends (knowing how much we love it) for Kevin's.
