Default Friday / Saturday Derby Report

Started fishing with my brother in law at 5:00 A.M. on Friday morning and didn't stop until 10:00 A.M. We started with live bait and caught a couple salmon about 20". Switched over to spoons and landed 2 more salmon around 18" and 5 healthy lakers all between 20"-21".

Went back out in the afternoon and fished from 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. and landed 1 more salmon at 17" and 4 more healthy lakers all around 20". Total fish landed for Friday was 14 but nothing big enough for the board.

Saturday morning we hit the water at 6:30 A.M. and fished until 10:00 A.M. We lost two near the boat and landed one fingerling salmon about the same size as my lure! It was real slow fishing. We tried live bait, spoons and flies behind attractors but the fish were having no part of it.

Went out again Saturday afternoon from noon until 4:00 P.M. and decided to try jigging for lakers as we saw a couple monsters come right up to my downrigger ball in the morning. Went to the same area where we saw them and jigged for about an hour with no luck. Went back trolling with spoons and only caught one small mouth bass. There were tons of boats out all day and fish just did not want what we were presenting to them.

Haven't been out yet today and not sure if I will...maybe later on this afternoon after the Derby is done and when the sun goes down a little.

It's been a beautiful weekend thus far! Hope you all had a chance to get out on the water and enjoy it!

Dan

Thanks for Posting Dan. That's some decent catching. I was at the Smith River Canoe Race finish and was thinking it wasn't one of my favorite types of days to fish. There was barely a ripple on Wentworth and at Wolfeboro Bay it was about the same, and that was mid afternoon. It felt more like an August day.
