Default Sad Weekend...

Well it looks like even though there is still plenty of ice on the lake, the upcoming warm weather and rain predicted for next week will probably start to erode the shoreline. That means I can't take any chances and will have to pull the bob house off the ice this weekend.

It was fun while it lasted, caught lots of lakers, and cusk and enjoyed fishing with friends and family!!!

O.K., after this Sunday it's time to bring on Ice Out!!

Dan

Edited to add, I wasn't the Steelers fan!!

News 9 did say snow for Monday afternoon on the tail end of the Sunday rain.

Boy am I ever the optimist huh? We need a snow dance.

It is about 2 to 3 weeks to soon to pull the houses and we need an additional week or 2 after that for snowmobiling before pulling up the mud and hitting rocks. I know that is asking a lot now with the sun so high, but one can can't they???

Cool rig! Last weekend was the end of the brackish water fishing, which was a shame because the Smelts have been hitting really nicely. One of my buddies told me today he fell thru the ice in Durham on thursday taking in his house. He was dragging it across the channel (it was low tide) but he went in over his head. Popped up in time to see the house barreling at him. He grabbed the ski and levered himself out before it ran him over. He has not told his wife or daughters what happened.

April first is coming, though! Salmon in Alton! Got the 5wt fly rod out already.

Dan, after what happened to you last year, I don't blame you. Even if that has nothing to do with the decision, not being able to get your bob house off the ice is a pain.

Also, just because the bobhouse is off the ice doesn't mean fishing comes to an end.

Everyone enjoy the rest of the season.

Default Season ending

Dan,

Though I know the reality of the weather, today prooved to be a tough day to call it quits. I brought my son out (he's 5) to a trout pond near us and boy we hammered em'. What a great day to be on the ice too! Here's to the tail end of another great season!

Wow, what a great set up. I have never been ice fishing and dont do the whole "winter experience" snowmobiling etc... but if I were to do it, I would wanna do it just like that...As bad as I want ice out (and I want it bad) I hope you guys get a little longer out there..

On a side note, Dan is that the same Ranger, but repaired, from last year or did things work out well with the insurance and what not?

HCG;

No this is a different Ranger. The other one was totaled by the insurance company.

There is still 18" of ice but what a difference just one day made out here. Yesterday there was tons of snow and great riding all over the lake. This morning all the snow is gone!! Nothing but water and glare ice. Warm weather and rain predicted for the next week, time to get busy and haul off the bob house!

Can't complain however as we caught seven nice lakers yesterday so we are ending the season on a good note!

Dan
