Mark forums read

Hi Don,
I have re-read the thread on making threads read (choices 1,2, and 3) and I still am confused. I hit the "quick links" and then I hit the "Mark Forums read" and exit without logging off. I come back an hour later and I see "new post icons" opening the topic I see that there are date/time stamped threads prior to when I exited. If I open the topic there are no new threads to be read. Is this correct, and the way in which you decided to leave the way in which it was to work? I am not complaining I just want to know how to leave winnipesaukee.com forums without reading everything, mark all threads read, and come back hours, days, etc. later without having the topics showing me that there are new threads to be read when there are none or are ones that I chose to ignore on my last visit. I hope I haven't been too confusing, but it's hard to be clear when you are confused, I think I just pledged to go sky diving this summer
