Thought I saw the paramedics performing that when the Gilford boat came in but didn't want to say anything.

Wmur
10:00 pm news said 17 year old, tubing accident. CPR started out on the lake before coming to Glendale. No word on condition. As always, early news is short on details and accuracy may be difficult. Best wishes to injured teen and family.

Critical Condition
17-year-old in critical condition after tubing accident on Lake Winnipesaukee, Marine Patrol says.
WMUR https://www.wmur.com/article/marine-...enile/61870043 Local man quoted: Steve St. Onge lives on Mark Island in Gilford, and he said he was at the town docks when crews came in help. “There were several emergency vehicles. Two ambulances, a fire truck, two Gilford police cruisers, and there were a lot of people standing on the end of the dock,” St. Onge said. “I've been on the lake for 20 years and see a lot of things come in and out of here. And whenever I see that many emergency vehicles, I know that something is going on,” St. Onge said. |

Globe reports that his father was doing CPR on EMTs' arrival. That would make this the third father in recent memory, the others being the guy who lost his hat and the snowmobile through the ice. I imagine this adds an unbelievable amount of pain on top of an already unbelievable amount of pain

Any update on what happened specifically? Tubing too fast and just hit the water hard during a fall? Hit a hazard? Getting the information out there is important towards educating other boaters such that they don't make the same type of mistake with an even worse outcome.

It's no different than when a bad car accident happens and the reports say speed, alcohol, distracted driving whatever were a factor. Is that an invasion of privacy? Not in my mind. It's sharing of information that might prevent someone else from also getting hurt in the future |

I posted a similar sentiment last summer or the one before—that there was an increase of people coming through the area we were using to tube—and was met with mixed responses. Whenever I see people anchored out, wake surfing/skiing/tubing, etc. I steer clear. That's not so for a LOT of people lately. Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |

Tubing accidents are far too often caused by grossly excessive speed.
RAVE says right on their website boat speed should not exceed 20 MPH https://www.ravesports.com/blogs/lif...before-you-tow I dont think I have ever seen anyone tow under 30 MPH. Most modern boats are not even on a clean plane until over 25 MPH. And I have never seen anyone plowing while towing a tube. Its truly frighting to see someone towing little kids at like 35 then cut a hard turn and send them flying across the lake,,, Hope it turns out ok for all of them :-( |

As my handle would suggest, I have a Cobalt boat. It's 24' and though it's a 2005, it's not too different from a new one the same size. It's pretty easy to keep the boat on plane going 20 mph if you have trim tabs. I usually tow the kids at around 25. Maybe short bursts slightly faster only going straight. Slow around curves.
Hope the child is recovering well |

That Is, REPORTED Tubing Injuries...
The last case of tubing injuries on Lake Winnipesaukee was when the operator made a sharp turn at speed and whipped the riders into docked boats!

Wow there's an awful lot of assumptions going on here. I hope the injured 17 year old is doing OK.
I echo Cobalt's post. I have a newer model Four Winns H230 and I can keep it on plane slightly below 20 mph. When I tow tubers, I try to keep my speed at 20 mph. Point is, boats can be on plane at 20 mph. |

I did not hear that exact address, but this afternoon (probably around 2:30ish) Alton got called for a 40 yo male that got struck by a propeller in his calf and was bleeding a lot.
Anyone have any updates or info on what he was doing near a running motor? |

About 23 years ago I took my son to the hospital in Wolfboro for a gash on his chin. The doctor commented “I don’t know why the water in the lake isn’t red.” Seems he may have had a point!

My heart breaks for him and his family. When you lose a child, life is never the same…I hope they can find some measure of peace as time passes.
