Default Alton Bay Ice Runway now open.

The Alton Bay Ice Runway is now open. It is currently 120'X3000', all ice surface, so it will be very slick. No taxiways, so those landing must turn around on the runway and back taxi to the parking area. Caution advised for anyone east of the runway, along the rte 28a shoreline due to circulator activity and the resulting thin ice.

Several planes today, about 5 out of view either to right or on runway or taxiway.

Anyone know if the runway will be open for the weekend? Right now it's NOTAMed closed through Friday, presumably due to snow but I guess re-opening depends entirely on how quickly it could be cleared.

President's day weekend, and the Winter Carnival on Sunday. Weather forecast looks great through the weekend. I'm sure Paul and crew will have everything set for the weekend.

UPDATE: Drove by the bay about 2:30 pm today (Thurs 2-16), and they were plowing both the runway and parking ramp. Woo hoo.

NHDOT posted on Twitter this morning that the runway is closed for the season.
