75 feet over land and a road before hitting and damaging the house!
Actually kind of impressive. |

?
Jumped or fell out. Betting a thief might not use the kill switch lanyard. Or ewar PFD. Missing person report might solve this crime?

One article I read said it was still running when first responders arrived, that's a long time out of the water, I'd pass... what a waste of a nice boat and painful experience for both the boat and homeowners.

Just wondering, Were the keys in it, or was it hot-wired.
Anyone know? |

Deja Vu
Years ago, late at night, a high-performance boat ran onto an island and into an unoccupied cabin some distance away from the shoreline. None of the three occupants of the boat survived.

The police reported almost right away that the boat was stolen, so my assumption is that it was hot wired. Other than a statement by the owner (which may or may not be reliable), how else would they know so quickly?

Perhaps when they get there they call the number that is tied to the registration to make sure the guy isn't in the water and he says I am in Massachusetts and nobody should be in my boat. Just assuming here but that is 1 way.

If your talking way back 20 + years ago, I thought I remember that as the owner of Davidson Construction in NH.

It was the Davidson's. Their children lost both their parents.

I take the keys out of mine when left unattended because I lock the cabin up and I want a little deterrent. Taking the keys out of the ignition switch on the vast majority of stern drive boats is going to add 10 seconds to the time it takes to steal it. Most boats are ridiculously easy to hot wire. Connect the red/purple to the purple to turn it on, and momentarily touch the red/purple to yellow/red to start. That's it...

a. this forum is not exactly crawling with potential boat thieves b. current boat thieves already know how to hot wire a boat c. my tutorial might just get someone home after losing their boat key. |
