Default Pops is open!

It opened last weekend along with Dockside Restaurant! Lots of great choices in the bay now including Shibleys, Sandy Point and JP China!

Never mind the "Moose" and Ackerly's

We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful assortment of fine eating establishments !

We planned for weeks that we would celebrate Mother's Day with a huge clam plate from Pop's this year and saved accordingly.
To or disappointment we arrived at 5 PM with anticipation to learn that Pop's was totally out of Clams and most all seafood! Dinner time on Mother's Day and no Clams, my wife was very unhappy and our minds were set on clams.
So, we had to head over to Sawyer's to get our fix. It did the job, but really wanted Pop's. Hopefully later in the season we will try again and maybe call first.

Default sorry

River rat
sorry we didn't have clams for you. We had alot busier weekend than I had anticipated. We ran out of clams at 1:00 pm. We usually are not very busy on mothers day. I think the summer like weather changed that this year. Alot of people ask "how can you be out of clams?" The answer is simple. I have to order my clams on Thursday morning. I have to calculate what I think I will go through and hopefully have none left at the end of Sunday night as we are closed for the rest of the week. I refuse to use frozen clams as
they are garbage I.m.o.. having them as backup in the freezer would be an option if the quality was there.
once again I am very sorry we didn't have your clams

Don't know what all the fuss is about, made a special trip last year after all the glowing reports, wasn't worth the drive! Bobs in Kittery and the Clam Box of Ipswich are so much better when we come back to New England.

A few more posts like this and there will be some clams left for me by the time I make it there next weekend!!
I don't know of Bob's and the Clam Shack...but I do know that Pop's is consistently among the very best places for fried seafood that I know of. The trip by boat from Meredith to Alton has been one of my favorites for years!

Have been to Bob's . The clams were good but not in the same league as Pop's.

Default U-turn for Pops

Had my first fisherman's platter of 2015 last Friday, My wife and I actually drove right by Pops cuz we were anxious to get to the camp but I quickly came to my senses and banged a U-turn. Good call because it was phenomenal as usual. Freshest seafood around IMO.

Thanks POPS!!!

The reality is that I work alot more hours than just the time we are open. I work 90 hour weeks during the summer. I also work a winter job to supplement my income.

Enjoyed lunch at Pop's today. It was great. It was so tough to park at the docks though. Even with my Seadoo I had to wait over 30 minutes to find a spot. The public docks in Alton are short. You can really only park one boat on each side of the dock.

Default We had supper there...

We went to Pops last night, and got a clam roll (mine), small side of scallops (hers) and a small onion ring. We shared the rings, and I barely finished my clams, but not the bun. She could not finish her scallops, leaving either 2 or 3.

We had been out on the boat all afternoon, and docked at about 430. Had to wait about 5 mins or so for a spot to open up. Got the food from Pops and then watched the Jumbo Peanut Circus concert.

Then a nice cruise back to WAM... great day on the lake, highlighted by Pops.. May have to arrange one more trip before they close for the season.

We rode down to Alton Bay yesterday and there was the biggest line we have seen all summer waiting for a dock. We couldn't even get through to turn around. We weren't looking for a dock, just cruising through. Funny you should mention it.
