The site is now running on a completely different server than it was a few weeks ago. The problems that were affecting the old server are gone and the site has been working well.

However, there is a big difference in the utilization of the server. Before we were running on our own server that, when it was working properly, had ample resources available. The response was very fast and the server was never even moderately loaded.

The new server is shared with many other sites and can be heavily loaded during busy times. The new server just can't process and reply as quickly as the old server when it is busy.

I have spoke to the host about the server loading and they will make adjustments over time to balance the load.

Exclamation Today's Downtime

You may have noticed that the site was slow or unavailable for periods of time today. This was not a problem with the server. There was a major problem on the Global Crossing ISP backbone that created problems for the entire data center. This may also account for some short outages earlier in the week.

Some of you may recall that last year a backhoe accidentally dug up the feed to the data center causing almost an entire day of downtime. It's always something.

For now the problems have been resolved. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Default Strange??

That's strange. Some folks can not connect and some can. I guess the access is limited to what the capacity of the server is. It appeared I never had issue months ago. These problems are all new to me as of the past 2-3 month.

From the comments in this thread it seems like you are the only one who had trouble last weekend. My site monitoring report shows 100% uptime for last Saturday and Sunday and I was on the site for much of that time. Maybe there is a routing problem with your ISP.

Boy, this discussion on speed laws will certainly help shake out any problems with the new server

It would be interesting for us network types to look out to the website from your PC to see how you are routed.

*When you can't connect* run a traceroute and post the results (well, save it and post when you can connect....LOL).

In windows, start/run/cmd/tracert www.winnipesaukee.com

Linux: traceroute www.winnipesaukee.com

Mac: Got me

Here is what I see:

Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]

Default What browser?

I go on other forums for professional reasons.
One, powered by same, functions better with FireFox, and also the other is better on Firefox. However, this will not function in Firefox, on a Mac.

I need to use Safari, which works poorly with the other two.

What is experience of others? Thanks
