Default A kind boater helped us today...

As we were motoring along in our mighty 18' Sea Ray bow rider, the engine quit
just after passing through Weirs Cannal. We drifted out of the busy area into a corner of Paugus Bay and set the hook.

After a quick look I figured we might as well use our Sea Tow membership and called them. Ken said he'd be then ASAP which, unfortunately, would be two hours. I went to work troubleshooting, with zero tools, as my son looked for sympathetic boaters. To our great relief, he found one!

Doug arrived in his ice blue Polar center console and soon we were being towed back to our mooring. Watching him handle the lines, it became obvious that this was not Doug's first rodeo. It turns out he is a 26 year veteran of the Coast Gaurd. He put us right on our mooring and refused any compensation for his efforts. A class act!

THANKS DOUG! (and your patient family)

I shall play it forward when I get the chance.

Oh, and the boat...

If I can't figure it out soon you'll get a shot at playing...

"What's wrong with Rich's boat?"

8gv, I just noticed that you are fairly new to the forum and glad you have joined us. (Ya, I see that I’m a tad bit late) Have fun and enjoy the Winni Forum while making many new friends. I hope that you find your problem quickly so that you and the family can get back out on the water to enjoy your time her. Oh thanks Doug for coming to their aid.

Default Fixed it!

The ignition fuse was blown. I had checked it visually while waiting for help but could not see a breach in the filament. Back at the dock while retracing my steps with a meter I found the fault. There was just enough of a burned mark inside the fuse to make it look like it was ok.

My lesson learned? Switch the fuse with another even if it looks good. It can save you (and maybe others) some un-needed adventure!

RLW, thanks for the welcome.

Might want to find out why it blew before you go out again. It would be a good idea to replace it with a circuit breaker too.

It's sure nice to see there are still some nice people out there.

Was Doug a resident or a visitor?

I also own a Polar. Its a 23' walkaround. Glad to see a Polar owner doing the right thing

Dave R, are you the Dave R from boating ABC?

I am indeed. How's it going? Still sporting the orange hat? Have not seen you folks since the awesome Sebago trip in '05.

Are you going to be on Winni or Sebago any time soon? We'll be on Winni many times this season, and at least once this week. We are also planning another "overnight on the hook" Sebago/Long Lake trip some time this Summer. Feel free to join us.
