1954 Chart

My wife found this 1954 chart at a vintage store in Worcester, MA and had it framed for me for Christmas.

Interesting to see that the markers haven't changed much, but maybe 30 fewer flashing lights in 1954.

Also, speed limits vs. no wake areas. 12 MPH south of the bandstand...

Ah,..................Bring back the good old days!

In the early to mid 70's we used to water ski off of the Bandstand.

Very cool. I have a similar 1958-59 chart. One of the things I noticed is a lot of the marinas have not been developed, West Alton being one of them.

I have a 1962 chart; laminated, folds in half and wee still use it. Much easier to read when you're underway since there is so much less clutter compared to more contemporary charts. Someday, we'll get an electronic chart that layers different displays like depth, fish, seaplane landing areas, etc.

My uncle hauled his drag boat up from NJ and enjoyed making high speed runs early AM, 100 mph plus.

He was pretty far off shore so as not to annoy with noise.

In the early 70's we had about 5 of those "drag boats" in a group of friends. Healthy sound, rough ride, sparse seating, and a foot operated gas pedal . No transmission as we know it, no reverse, just either in gear or out of gear. Almost flat bottoms so they needed stainless fins on the bottom center of the boat for stability and turns.

We spent a lot of time in Alton Bay and never ventured too far away. (Even though we could get there pretty quickly)

The good old days!

I remember those boats. To me, a lot of noise but I wasn't old enough to know it was objectionable. Mostly at the Weirs. We thought Alton Bay was pretty stodgy unless you liked to roller skate.
