Default Moose killed on Rt 11 last night

I noticed that a full grown moose had been hit and killed sometime before 6:15 AM today (May 12), .2 mile south of the Mt Major parking lot. It had been hit very hard by a vehicle at highway speed, and I was surprised to find the carcass still lying in the breakdown lane at 9 AM after I had finished hiking Mt Major. Anyone fill in more details?

Welcome to the forum hiker.

The remains were there at mid day yesterday the 12th and also at mid day today. We went by at about 4 pm today and the remains were gone. We should thank whoever dealt with it, not a pleasant task.

It looked like a very small moose, likely a yearling that was still thin after the winter. Sad for the moose and sad for the driver.

BTW hiker, much more to the Belknap Range after getting past Major. Happy hiking.
