Anyone see the 4 prop Navy Planes today?

There I was, sitting in front of my bobhouse today around 2-2:30pm when I look up towards the pavilion and here comes this big@$$ 4 prop plane coming straight at me, maybe 100 yards up and right behind it another. They flew right over my head and snaked their way up the bay making hard lefts and rights keeping it tight to the middle and down low. WOW what a thrill.
And than I remebered my cellphone camera! So no pics but I was hoping someone saw them coming long enough to get a pic.
This is not the first time I have heard of this happening.

I saw a similar plane flying over Stratham on Monday, 11AM ish timeframe. My son, who is into military/planes, said it was a refueling plane. You could see the little "wing" just behind the tail of the plane. I think he said it was a C-130, or KC-130.

Pease is home to a refueling wing,and they fly KC135's, the Air Force equivelent of Boeing 707.

Many, many decades ago.
Each Summer.
A pair/few jets would fly low/dip to xx feet above water then fly up.
West to east.
From some base in NY heading to Pease.
Old folks told us that it was Air Force Reserve doing Summer training or just transporting jets from NY to NH.
It was really to cool to watch. For we kids. It inspired some of us to think about joining the US Air Force. One of us did become a pilot.

Alas, someone complained. I heard. And the jets never flew low again.

It was inspiring to we kids.

In those days—it was, indeed—inspiring.

At my winter residence, we're not very far from a U.S. Navy base.

Complaints—mostly, residents from the northern tier of the United States—are aired on local radio, printed-, and electronic- media frequently.

My question, however, is this: How was this determined to be a Navy aircraft? They look so much alike. That must have been a very low "pass".

'Course, only a U.S. Navy C-130 has landed on an aircraft carrier!

Those are White Pines and Eastern Hemlocks in the photo, which grow to somewhat over 100-feet. The Hercules in the background is a huge aircraft. I think he's well-above 500-feet.

I was at Sandy Point around 2:00 and also heard then saw the aircraft. Unfortunately, by the time I could get to my car to grab the camera they were gone.

These shots were taken just south of Sandy Island. Two planes came in low and slow. Hard to say for sure, but it looked like the 500 ft aviator's rule (similar to the 150 foot rule on the water) was stretched a bit.

What "500 ft aviator's rule" are you talking about? These guys were flying VFR operational as a flight of two. Other than any service, wing or squadron SOP, there's nothing from preventing them flying as close together as the Blue Angels.

Pretty sure he meant above the ground..... for lightly populated areas over land.

Doesn't necessarily need to be in a MOA. If you think that the C-130s that you observed the other day were in violation of any rule, than perhaps you should make a report to the FAA.

Having been close to the 500 ft AGL limit a few times myself, I'm inclined to let them slide, however a Cessna wouldn't do the same kind of damage as a C-130 in an oops situation. You have me curious though about when the military is permitted to ignore civilian regulations (and which ones) when outside their military operations area.

It's been a few years, but I believe if they are under VFR they can go as low as they like over water. Over land the rules are different depending on terrain and population. We used to fly our KC-135 500' over a certain city on the shores of Lake Champlain, all perfectly legal.

You're presuming first of all that the aircraft were lower than 500'. It's easy to see a large aircraft in the sky and think it's lower than it really is. The wingspan of a C-130 is 133'; compare that to a civilian bugsmasher. 500' is less than 4 wingspans for a C-130. I lived under the bounce pattern of a military airfield for more than 10 years where aircraft of similar size to C-130s were most frequently seen; the pattern altitude was 1,200', but when planes flew directly overhead, you would have thought they were at 500' or less. It can be very deceiving.

The military adheres to all applicable flying regulations. Some of those regulations apply only to military aircraft; in most instances FAA regulations apply to civilian and military aircraft alike. A military pilot violating regulations will get written up just as fast (probably faster) than a civilian pilot.

MOAs are not the only type of military training areas. There are also VR and IR routes, designated tanker tracks and restricted areas, to name a few. At one point, there was a VR route over Winnipesaukee; I don't know if it still exists. In the early 80s I remember watching a flight of three A-10s flying very low over Black Cat Island to the southeast and out over the Broads. I don't know how low they were, but it was impressive.

A fairly obtuse post. Perhaps you would like to clarify, otherwise your post means nothing. Do you think that the C-130s that have been flying over the lake are involved in something other than routine training? Perhaps a nefarious government plot to undermine our constitutional rights? Is your tinfoil hat planted securely on your head?

I got to see one of these beauties fly low down The Broads last night just after 7:00 pm, banking for a turn. What a grand sight!!! I do hope to catch it again soon.

Not sure any of you saw it, but you may have heard it. Last night, about 7ish, at least two of those Navy planes did several touch and go's at Laconia Airport. The planes would take off into the west, one right behind the other, and start to fly towards downtown. They would then bank hard to the north and fly right over Paugus Bay, lifting as they broke to the east. The lights were illuminated under the wings and the engines as well as the belly were visable. It was a treat to see these planes so low on Pearl Harbor Day. Honestly, it was kind of freaky as I had watched several shows on Pearl/WW2 throughout the day. Hearing and seeing propped military planes was a trip! They did the same route at least 5 or 6 times then flew off to the west as they did all summer.

We heard multi engine prop planes low over West Alton at about that time. Made us wonder what was going on as that was very unusual.

Last night they were C-130's. It was quite a show if you got to see it or hear it.
