No fishing...
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories...MPLATE=DEFAULT
Jan 10, 8:02 AM EST No fishing on salmon and trout lakes Advertisement CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- To fish or not to fish? Lake trout and salmon lakes may not have frozen over yet because it's been so warm -- but that doesn't mean that they're open to anglers. The Fish and Game Department says that from Jan. 1 through March 31, fish may be taken from these designated lakes by ice-fishing only. Anglers can't fish the open water in these lakes until April 1. Officials note that a lake doesn't have to be frozen over entirely to meet the regulation; if coves have formed ice that is thick and safe enough, anglers may fish through manmade holes in the ice on these areas. |

no problem
All you need is a sheet of ice big enough to drill a hole and hold a tilt. You might have to tow the small ice sheet out a ways, and sit in the boat next to it, but be sure the fish comes thu the hole before netting.

Seeing as it's now 1/15, what are the chances of the Derby being postponed again this year? Seems likely, given the lack of ice. What a crazy winter.

I suspect with the cold coming this week it won't take long to get real ice on the lake at least in the bays

Danger
I hope that the Fish and Game post danger signs at many of the lake entrances. I am worried that some of the out of state ice fishermen may not realize the ice condition is abnormal this year. I am sure we will have skim ice by the first weekend in February. However, some fishermen have been coming up to the lake for many years and expect to be able to drive on or at least walk on the lake. I have been fishing the lake for over 30 years and this is the worst I have seen it. The springs in the lake will create abnormal ice thicknesses because of the late ice formation. Ice fishermen be warned "travel across the ice at your own peril" Check the ice thickness frequently as you venture out. BE SAFE

Last Saturday (1/13) I saw several people ice fishing and skating on Chocorua Lake on my way to North Conway. It was warm out and there was water on top of the ice. Could not believe my eyes.
