Default Gilford Cycle Races... ? Old race track location.

Hello gang,

New here., Im Steve F from Boston. Been coming to the Lakes Region since 1972.

We regularly ride up for Bike Week nowadays and stay at the Greystone in Gilford.

I have some old memorabilia from the 1946 mcy races held in "Belknap". I believe some of the shots show the Belknap recreation bldg as well. My question, Is there anyone on the board that knows the loction, old street names or perhaps diagrams or maps of the old Race Circuit used for the 50 and 100 mile races please?

Thanks in advance, fdnyladder7 comcast net

(ca1946 photo shows a hairpin turn, which is just before the starting line for the race). Also, just discovered that the area to the left is the foot of the current Bike Hill Climb event.

Default Gilford motorcycle races

If memory serves correctly, these races were held on the grounds of the Gunstock Ski Area. I'm not sure of the course layout, but I know they had a hillclimbing event. I'm sure someone out there must have more information and pictures.

Default 1938 - The First Race

Started at the Belknap Mountain Recreation Area. (Now called Gunstock.)

This was the first official Laconia race was held in September and it was the only 200 mile race ever held at Laconia.

I didn't see any maps on this site: History of Laconia Motorcycle Week

Our Forum member, Boardwalk Bluesboy might be able to help you further. I bet he has more historic items yet to post.

Or

LaconiaBikeWeek.net
's Forum might be a good place to ask your question.

Welcome oche16! We would love for you to post your ephemera here in our History Forum!

Good luck! Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the replies and direction. Im quite certain the Start/Finish is in front of the old ski jump on Route 11A. In June, I'll ride up there and take a few snaps from the same spot.

A recent acquisition. Starting line snapshot taken at the 1946 Races at Belknap. Wondering if the judges' gazebo is still standing? That would make locating this spot a cinch
