Lot next to Cumberland Farms Laconia
Driving past the open lot next to Cumberland Farms today noticed some trucks there and also clearing down all the trees what is left. Did they finally decide to put something in there?

I do not think anything has been brought in front of the Laconia Planning Board... yet.

IMO it would have been nice to keep what WAS left. Sadly things are beginning to resemble more of an open wound, especially having clipped that last decent remaining trees. |

Beat me too it.
I was going to post the same question. I thought it odd that they did the clear-cut last year+ and stumped it all and let grass grow, then once it was all settled drop the last trees that bordered the property.
I just happened to have taken this pic this AM as I was enjoying the view. Just hope they put something in that takes advantage of the view and draws folks to the Weirs, and not yet another storage facility. |

It's a beautiful piece of property in an unbelievable location which would have been better left alone but at the same time this could be a valuable asset to the area to draw more tourism provided it is the correct type of venue and designed to blend into the area.

I thought I read somewhere that there was a hotel and function facility planned for the site?

I think what you may be remembering was many years back when Marriot Corp. was looking -- but got so much apparent grief- they built the Town Place Suites off the By-Pass instead.

Something about that stretch of Rt 3, going up the hill there, makes it a tough location for an experienced national business even with the huge lake and mountain view. Will it become home to the quasi permanent yard sale?
Heard the Cumberland 'gas and go' had disappointing sales numbers for its' first two years in business and remodeled the gas pumps and overhead canopy with bright green details in an effort to create a friendly green look. The Cumby green detail effect is a good look and probably does help gasoline-store sales there. Unfortunately, unlike Lowe's, Home Depot, Hannaford's, Walmart, and Irving, the Weirs Cumberland does NOT accept the Meredith Village Savings Bank debit card? Is that dumb or what?

Wrong roof was built
Quote:
From the news article: The Planning Board is considering raising the roof at the newly constructed Cumberland Farms on Route 3 at The Weirs after discovering that the canopy over the gasoline pumps does not match the design prescribed by the board. A divided board has postponed a final vote on the matter until February. See the full story here: https://www.laconiadailysun.com/news...c016b727f.html |

So they go thru a process and are denied a design and except the alternative, so they supposedly build the denied design by mistake and now want to be forgiven? Lets not set that precedent or you will see others will follow. Make it right!!

That 2007 article from the LaDaSun talks about the design, but no mention about the colors. First the canopy was 100% white, and then after the redo it was and is white with green details.
The town probably said yes to the green details, because like why not, "We have no objection.", and Cumby wanted to go with the green because it shows better than the original all-white. The green and white looks very good ..... Cumby did a great job with that canopy ..... looks just like a gas station from a Norman Rockwell painting on the cover of a 1948 Time Magazine! Cumberland Farms: gasoline, coffee and lottery tickets and lottery tickets and more lottery tickets.

OK, now that the roof issue is settled, what about the lot next to Cumberland farms? Does anyone know someone on the Planning Board?

Condos seem to be the norm
Condos? That's my guess. Kinda like Jersey. Or Massachusetts. Or anywhere people leave to get away from overdevelopment and condos. Yet...
