Picked UP my New Mattress
Picked up my new mattress in Ossipee.
From the place that makes them right on site. Price was reasonable. In past have had mattress from large retail chains and even on line. OK. But just don't seem to have much quality. Or longevity. Can't do foam. Always wake up with bad back using foam. Two different homes. Slept on a $2,000 foam and woke up with bad back. Slept on a $1,000 foam and woke up with bad back. And no, don't wish to get into any sleep number type contraptions. |

Guess I Like Them...
Sunset Mattress Factory, Ossipee: "Better Nights Make Better Days".
'Still have our four from 1956, I bought more and carried them to Florida in my van. The quality is evident as you watch the staff (of two?) put them together. |

The place in Ossipee is Sunset Mattress
We've been happy with the mattress & box spring we bought from them for guest room 10 years ago. They're easy to deal with and delivered to us in Wolfeboro.

Impressive, and good to see old school industries still making a go of it. Kudos to those of you who are taking the time to seek out and buy such products. When its a good fit for your needs/preferences its so much better to buy local and get old fashion quality.

Most mattresses you buy today are one sided so your lucky if you get 5 years out of one. |

Yes, the mattresses are flippable
C&P from website, under “Construction” tab:
In 1953, my grandfather, William Campbell, began manufacturing his own brand of custom made mattresses & box springs to a specific standard. I continue that same practice today. I begin with an all steel coil innerspring unit. Next I staple a two ounce insolation pad to both sides of the innerspring unit. An eyelet border is then hand sewn to the mattress, which then receives two layers of cotton felt padding on both sides. We do not use any foam products in the construction of our mattresses or box springs. A blue and white striped cotton ticking is then sewn to the unit. The mattress is then completed by hand tufting with buttons. We use the same quality products to construct our box springs. At Sunset Mattress Factory, we have always believed in manufacturing our mattresses with the same quality materials on both sides. This allows the consumer to turn and flip their mattress periodically to help extend the life, as well as, the comfort and support of the mattress. |

I have several different mattresses. One bought in 1991 and is supported by a sheet of plywood since it is on an antique bed with no other way for support since placing box springs makes it too high. I do not know what was used for these at the time. Also have a foam mattress bought in 1977 which is extremely firm which I like. Another mattress and box spring set bought in 1991 which is a bear to rotate. The newest set is a King mattress and box spring bought in 2014. This firm set is fantastic but a bear to lift to put sheets on.
