Half way up Mt Major is a nice easy walk and after the weekend the trail should be fairly well packed down from use.

Default Winter trails

I've hiked rattlesnake (not the island) on Squarm lake in winter which is only 1 mile long with moderate slopes and has great open vista's of the entire lake. I have also hiked Lonesome lake trail in Franconia Notch in winter. More challenging than Rattlesnake but great views of Lafayette. No snowshoes required for either hike but you should wear stabilizers on your boots for icy patches.

Try the Locke's Hill trail in Gilford on Rt. 11. It's a short hike but has a spectacular view of the lake.
