Considering the damage that could have been done to both people and property, that's absolutely amazing how that turned out. The bushes even made it. Probably some damage to the delivery truck but it didn't look too bad. Very lucky on all accounts, especially the people that were near it when it happened.

….. well well well ….. my my my …..wooda wooda wooda ….. holy smokes …. and totally, what a close call for death and destruction..... that green dumpster is definitely the hero of this run-a-way pickup truck event with a big assist from the big white truck ...… and about ten tons of good olde fashioned pure GOOD LUCK, ……. so, what happened? ..... some know-it-all says the automatic transmission was left in neutral while the driver left the vehicle … just my guess?

Apparently, the red pickup is attached to the excavation/construction going on behind the Center Harbor Fire Station, and must have been parked/stationed in the first parking spot along the driveway there, next to and parallel to the fire station. This red pickup made quite the amazing driverless run, leaving the driveway going backwards, crossing the two lane Main St, going downhill down the grassy, sloping Center Harbor town green area, over a sloping 24" drop ….. over a rock wall embankment landscape enhancement, traveling directly perpendicular across both lanes of busy NH State Route 25 while going backwards, onto the grass to the right of the paved driveway of the Center Harbor Inn, going downhill where it smacked the green dumpster, which slowed it down a whole lot, and then head-on style going backwards into the large white truck.

I could discern the tire lines going down across the grassy Center Harbor town green not far from the town gazebo, opposite the fire station driveway, and some small marks in the grass and black asphalt curb of the inn there close to the dumpster.

That is a truly amazing run-a-way vehicle story that ended with no death, no destruction, not too much of anything from what I know? Quite the unguided missle, making what almost seems like a guided ride, with very thankfully no horrendous smash-up on Route 25 there …. something that was a real dead possibility?

And, without the Center Harbor Inn webcam posted here, who would know?

Just looking at it again ….. is there someone in the drivers seat ….. cannot say …. a big question?
......................

Looking at the two slight line depressions left by the four tires going straight down across the town green at about 11:30am, today, the tire tracks were straight as an arrow, straight-straight-straight, going from the driveway to the left of the fire station, across Main St, the town green, State Rt 25 and onto Center Harbor Inn on the grass below, right, the paved driveway.

So, another possibility is this truck has a 5-speed manual stick shift, which was left in neutral without setting the parking brake? The truck's traveling so perfectly straight, while going backwards, indicates the key was not in the ignition, and the steering wheel was locked in a straight position, traveling backwards.

Oh well, seems like maybe the only damages are a banged up dumpster, banged up truck, and maybe bumper damage to the big white truck.

Everyone should say a prayer in church on Sunday, because this could have been big trouble zipping across Rt 25 like it did ......... Amen brothers and sisters!

So, what time did it all happen?

To read today's October 5, front page, Laconia Daily Sun article "Driverless truck rolls across street, highway; no one hurt" it should come up on google.

How far did it roll, all told, rolling from the fire station to the inn ….. in my totally expert, sidewalk superintendent-estimate.... maybe 100-yards, going straight, straight, straight …. going downhill backwards, across two paved roads, Main St and Rt 25, plus the downhill sloping, town green, plus the Center Harbor Inn property.

Looking at the tracks it left in the grass yesterday at about 11:30am, it went straight, straight, straight, going backwards and downhill which probably means the key was removed from the ignition, otherwise the front steering would have turned, as they were in the rear, going in reverse …... and the tracks go over a ski jump style rock wall enhancement ….. about 24" high, so maybe it went airborne briefly like a snowboarder ……. when it happened at 9:40am.

The LaDaSun reports the truck has a manual transmission, and it is an open question what exactly caused this pickup truck run-a-way to happen? Someone must have forgot to tie their horse to the horse tie ring …… and de danged buggy done just took off ….. don't a yo know ……. ho-ho-ho ….. oops …. wrong century!
............

So, it would seem this happening happened on Wednesday, Oct 3, at 9:40-am(?), and I could make out the grass indent lines on Thursday at about 11:30am. Probably, the rain a little later on, would erase the lines in the grass?
