Default What to do with my old sailboat

My friend has an old J24 sail boat. Good shape but dirty and needs sails and got a old Evinrude motor on it. He wants to give it away to a charity or something but not NHPR he said. Y'all know any local charity that takes sail boat donations ? Can he get a tax deduction ?

Try the NH Boat Museum. They have a boat auction annually to raise money for the museum.

Default Friend donating sailboat to Lake Winnipesaukee Sailing Association

Thank you DBreskin and PeterG. Good idea PeterG,, Im gone tell my friend to contact the LWSA. Seems like donating the old boat to help kids learn to sail is the way to go instead of donating to a museum (nothing against museums - just saying if its a choice then local kids come first imho)

Default Donate to the Boys Scout

I had a 35' US Sail. I decided to sell since US Sail went belly up and parts were hard to come by. I didn't get any offers so I donated the sailboat to the boys scouts. Did they have fun!

You can donate it to the Hospital street fair which benefits Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro. Call the volunteer office at the hospital to get in touch. They値l have you drop it at their donation barn on Rt 109A in Wolfeboro. They値l sell it via auction at the end of the fair which will be 8/4 this year. They love boats & they usually get a bidding war if it looks at all usable. Then you値l get a donation receipt for the amount it sells for. If you cant be there that day they値l mail it to you, but it痴 a fun event.

Default Donate your old boat to help Youth Sailing

The Lake Winnipesaukee Sailing Association (lwsa.org) is a local nonprofit that accepts boat donations to help support their youth sailing program. These donations are tax deductible.

Default Pick Up ?

Do LWSA Sailing School or Huggins come pick up the boat from you or do you have to get it to them ? Might make a big difference.

If it痴 on a trailer, I知 willing to tow it to whomever you decide to donate it to.

Default Donate a used sailboat - LWSA will come get it

Hi Capstan, Yes, in my experience, LWSA will come to you to get the boat. Just contact boats@lwsa.org or (603) 589-1177 or check out the website www.lwsa.org. I recently became a volunteer helping LWSA. I bought a used boat from them myself. It was cheap and they were super helpful plus I knew it was helping a really local charity that does something tangible for kids in our lake community.
